I was doing some reading and came across something that said that the photos taken from space is actually colored after they have been taken.

Anybody else read something like this? I have very limited knowledge about these things Razz

Yeah, I have read this article a while ago, I can't remember from where.

Obviously the pictures you see aren't taken in in visible light, but in infrared and ultraviolet spectrums... What NASA does is replicate what more or less you'd see, adapting it to a visible spectrum.

So all those sexy nebulas and supernovas might just be black and white :lucas:

Try taking a photo of a visible black hole.

Thats what bothers me Sad

Can astronauts actually see anything at all then? O.O I know these nebulas and other cool stuff are lightyears away but the thought of astronauts actually seeing just nothing at all really kills the awesomeness..

they can see a lot, but they see the stars similar to the way we see them - as little dots. the nebulae and stuff are zoomed and colored picutures from gigantic telescopes - nothing to be seen with the normal eye.
