Darlington Empty Darlington

Post by RealGunner Mon Jan 16, 2012 6:58 pm

Darlington's administrators have terminated the contracts of the club's interim manager Craig Liddle and the remaining playing staff.

The move puts Saturday's home game with Fleetwood in doubt, with the Football Conference setting a deadline of Wednesday to decide if it goes ahead.

In a statement, administrator Harvey Madden said there was "no alternative" given the club's financial position.

He also said that, despite interest, no formal takeover bids had been received.

The statement read: "Given the current financial position of the club and, as a consequence of my legal obligations, I have had no alternative but to terminate the contracts of all playing staff and the retained administration staff.

"Notwithstanding this, there remain parties interested in either injecting funds into the club to enable it to continue operating or acquiring the club.

"Every effort is being made to progress this to try to save the club. However, at this stage I have still not received any formal offers and unless a deal is concluded as a matter of urgency, time will have run out for Darlington Football Club."

Even though I'm a fan of Hartlepool and Darlington are one of our rivals I feel sad to see them go. They had a championship level stadium but not enough fans came in to pay off the debt. Neutral

Its a shame, its the stadium that killed them. Really nice ground but way too big for them.

If the county council (probably jawdees) hadn't been such knobs and allowed them to use it for other activities, they probably would of been ok.

Sunderland were going to loan them one of our keepers Jordan Pickford

Newcastle & Boro both agreed to loan them players also for their game on saturday.

But Fleetwood Town who they are due to play on sat have evoked a technicality so they cant sign any players on loan.

Means they have 9 players available

nope they all got laid off, they have exactly 9 players. It seems like they will still be able to take Pickford on loan from us because keeper loans are different than outfield players.

oh that sucks

they might have to play a GK as a defender probably if they have more then 1

Wonder if some random darlington fan could play for them ? Free transfers would be different then loan right ?

They are under a transfer embargo and cant sign any perm players. Free or not.

It seems like the only players they can sign are ones on loan and have to be youth players so under 21.

Which is what they were trying to do loaning players from boro and newcastle, but it seems like fleetwood have blocked it.

oh, thanks for the clarification.

I know fleetwood would be looking for easy 3 points but c'mon, let them loan few players.

Its kind of a crappy move from Fleetwood but I can understand their perspective.

Darlo are the ones who have got them self into the position they are in, they are fighting for survival so a few loan players would help them out massively.

But it wouldn't be particularly fair on fleetwood who are trying to win promotion playing against a team of premier league reserves.
