Re: CWC Final: santos vs barcelona
Santos came up 10th in serie a...
Aside from Neymar, borges, and ganso being dope in attack, Santos are easily not the best team in South America, they won Libertadores with a lot of luck. Had Velez Sarsfield beat Peñarol (which they should have) then Santos would not have won the final. I can name a few other teams in south america that would perform better than Santos.
the only good thing about this game is we finally get to see the "neymar vs messi" game and now maybe Pele can shut his stupid mouth once Barca win 6-0 with messi scoring 5 goals

Santos midfield and defense were fantastic, they declined a lot during the year though.i think Santos would have beaten Velez for sure.
about santos being 10th,ive said this 1 million times already, they weren't taking it seriously.

lol, says an argentine. (aka dont listen to him)
velez didnt make it because peñarol stopped them. dont come with this "what if..." or "they should have..." bs. deal with reality. santos won it with all merits. we did our jobs. you're all just sore 'cause brazilian teams have been winning most of the libertadores in the last 20 years lol.
ganso, borges, neymar, danilo, arouca, elano, henrique... that's all pretty good. our CBs aren't bad either, but yes they could be better. oh and we're missing our LB.
santos didnt care about the brasileirão, that's why we finished 10th. it's how things go in brazil most of the time. everyone pretty much agrees we've got the best 11 in the country.
dude, this neymar x messi thing is media bullcrap. please. i just read an interview with neymar a few days ago, in which the reporter was asking who was better in which aspects of the game, and neymar basically said that messi is better than him at everything. pelé is stupid, he was the best ever but he talks a lot of crap.

Santos almost didn't make it out of their group, and they still managed to win the Libertadores. That's a sign of a true champion! If there's a team that can beat Barca it's Santos. I hope Leo is fit enough to play.

Neymar actually comes down like a pretty humble guy when he gets interview. Most of the hates(if you can call that) that he gets is thanks to Pelé

Re: CWC Final: santos vs barcelona
Can some of the Brazilians on here describe to me how Brazilian domestic football works? When you manage there on FM there are 2 league championships, The State Championships and Serie A. Why is there more than one league championship each season? and Which one is more prestigious?

Re: CWC Final: santos vs barcelona
well, its something traditional since the pele days, the "estaduais" are played every first 2 months of the season, all of the clubs from a certain state face each other. In Sao Paulo for example Corinthians,Sao Paulo,Santos,Palmeiras always face up + the other average teams. It is prestigious since its historical and of course you face your rivals. Then there is the brasileirao which is the normal league,it is more prestigious than the estaduais.
Libertadores is in the top of everything which is our SA CL.

State Championships exist purely because of Brazil's continental dimensions and to keep small teams alive. Its' champions and vice-champions, among with top ranking clubs, qualify for Brazil Cup whose formula is similar to Copa del Rey or FA CUP for instance. It's the least prestigious championship for sure.
Serie A is the main competition.
Edit: Ganso's faster

Mate, that was pretty much a friendly game, when you think about it. ^
I've not been impressed with Santos at the back. They could've so easily conceded against theteamidontknow. However, the attack is bloody potent, wouldn't put it past Neymar to show some of his magic, I can see him doing some damage.

Elano is a definite starter,He's the most experienced and they need his set plays and free kick expertise. B Rodrigo will sit down for Leo and Durval will go back to his original CB position. That's if Leo is fit enough to play.

Re: CWC Final: santos vs barcelona
Leo hasnt played in like a month if im correct,it would be risky, but i would take this risk considering how meh Santos' defense looked like.I dont understand the criticism Elano is getting,Kashiwa started dominating from the moment he went off, they need a experienced CM,specially to handle iniesta(not in a defensive manner, iniesta is a workhorse on tracking back and a great tackler)biggiejay wrote:Catracho wrote:well.. until they offer the amount of money Santos wants.. they can watch all they want lol

i know people have already explained it to you, but here's some extra info: many people, including me, don't think the state championships should exist anymore. they are a waste of time for the big teams, and the smaller teams are, unfortunately, disappearing, because now many of the small town people are rooting for the bigger teams from the state capitals, etc. it is tradition, and it's good for some of the local rivalry, but the greedy people who sponsor it have gone mad. for example, in sao paulo state they have decided to make a mini league out of it, with waaaaay too many teams, it's really boring, because most of them are pretty bad ones, who aren't even in the serie c or something. the quality level of most of these championships is really low.
without the state championships, we would have the chance of a much better calendar in brazil, say copa do brasil + brasileirao league happening simultaneously, so that the copa do brasil winner doesn't lose the interest for the league as it generally happens (because both the winner of the copa do brasil and the brasileirao top 4 qualify for the libertadores), and so on. and then CONMEBOL should move the copa sudamericana to happen simultaneously with the libertadores. it sounds like a lot, but if they can manage to schedule all these cups and leagues in europe, it should be possible in brazil!!
anyway, if state championsips should exist, they should be made into more divisions with a more limited number of teams, so that it doesn't take so much time.

Re: CWC Final: santos vs barcelona
elano has been underperforming since the copa américa disgrace, and he's also been struggling with injuries.. however, even though he wasn't so good as an attacking player yesterday, he was a very important piece because he was markign well, and his experience might help. it'll be a tough decision. leo is definitely better than durval as a full back, andbruno rodrigo should start in case dracena sucks again

Ya... but I still lol whenever a team loses to some small club from like Paulista Serie A. (which is like division 5-6)

High population does not mean better leagues/players etc.
Just take Uruguay NT for example.

It explain why before Rio and Sao Paulo have city leagues. Many people supporting many clubs in each city. Only rare meetings between clubs of different city before Serie A in Brazil.
