What do you mean? We lost Hernandez, but we have adequate cover. The problem with Arsenal, is that Chamakh and Park can't produce the same level of football as van Persie does.

Did you really just compare RvP to Hernandez?
Anyway. Any top team will "struggle" without their best player.

No, not in that sense, but in the sense that we're going to lose his contribution (see today's game against Wolves, where Welbeck squandered chances Hernandez would be putting away), but we still have players that will do the job.
And obviously, but you've missed the point - I used the word significantly. No way in the world is Chamakh, or Park for that matter, going to come in and score 15 goals in the league.

Podolski's heir sounds more... legendary.

A mediocre CDM. Getting assists is not something that proves a player is a good DM, despite what some fans like to argue.Sushi Master wrote:Song can pass? I thought he was mediocre.
Henry almost jumped down those thousand balconies and to come down to celebrate. Come home, Henry!

Re: Van persie
So us having a decent defensive record after so many years, and him being our only natural DM has nothing to do with it?RedOranje wrote:A mediocre CDM. I can understand he's somewhat inconsistent, but he's really improved and not as headless going forward as before.

you of all people a Liverpool fan, should understand how players can improve, how would you like it if I called lucus mediocre? and claimed that he was still as shit as 2 years ago? song is still young and has improved a lot give him credit.

It proves that a player is well-rounded, and has many sides to his game, not just the one. He can attack, create, dribble, defend etc. etc. He does everything.
As for your "mediocre" comment....It's so completely baseless, I find it odd to hear from you.
Song is not a mediocre CDM by any means and no matter how you look at it.

Re: Van persie
Song, as a DM, tends to wander from his designated area and leave holes that other teams can and do exploit. He's also prone to poor tackles and lapses in concentration when on the ball or marking players. He is, by all accounts, an average to above average DM. However, his faults are often overlooked and he is proclaimed to be one of the best DMs in the PL because he will get assists and goals, which are NOT a natural part of a DM's game.
Song is a very good and improving CM but he is an average DM.

Re: Van persie
Also, Lucas WAS mediocre DM several years ago... even poor at times. Of course he has improved, as all (or nearly all) young players can... song included. That does not change the fact that Lucas was, and Song IS CURRENTLY, not great.

Re: Van persie
Pure DMs don't exist anymore, though. They have to have some sort of skillset else they'll just get the usual "headless" treatment.

Re: Van persie
@ Sushi: Pure DM's don't exist?
What is Lucas? What is Mascherano? De Jong? Tiote?
Even if we do take your statement as fact (I tend to disagree) what of the players that continue to play DM without leaving gaps or losing the players they're meant to be marking? Javi Martinez, Schweinsteiger, etc all manage to contribute to attacks without leaving gaps as often as Song. The lad simply does not play the role or have the discipline to be considered a top DM... YET.

Re: Van persie
Oh, sure they exist, I'm just saying the good ones always have that extra spark.
De Jong is benched by Milner/Barry, Mascherano is deployed only as a CB, Tiote has Cabaye and actually isn't a horrible passer. Lucas is very complete.
I'm not saying Song is god on earth as of now, but he's improved a lot and shown up in key moments which says a lot about his mentality, even though he's a "DM". He's no where near Schweini or Martinez level, but he has the potential. But to call him "mediocre" just sounds like you still consider him shit.
