Re: the official Dwayne Wade >>> you thread
You guys actually like what the Raps did? You had a glaring need for a PG, with both Brandon Knight and Kemba on the board and you grab another big who's not going to come over until 2012. Valanciunas could very well be good, he needs to get stronger before he comes over, but I think they would have been better set with B.Knight/Walker.
But I guess there's a good chance you could get your PG next year in the lottery with either Rivers, Teague, Kabongo.

you do realize that it is almost certain that there is going to be a lockout? So even if he comes over, he won't be able to play due to the lockout. Raptors are desperately in need of a franchise type player (i mean bargnani wtf?). This year draft was quite weak due to the reason I stated in my previous post. Valanciunas is a risk, but it might pay off(not likely). When Jonas does join the team in 2012, Raptors will also have another top rookie draftee.
But I do agree that he needs bulk up

... I mentioned a page back that there was going to be a lockout shortened season in my Bobcats post. Keyword, shortened. Basketball will be played in the 2011-12 season it's just a matter of how many games missed. Not sure what you mean by "even if he comes over"; he's not coming over, even with no lockout looming, it was part of his buyout deal, he can't come over until 12-13. I just thought the Raptors needed an instant impact guy, someone who can put some more fans in seats, and someone who can most of all bring leadership(that's Kemba more than Knight). Walker or Knight would have brought a few more fans in that they desperately need since losing Bosh. Plus if you drafted Walker, you keep DeRozan happy and maybe he doesn't walk after 2014(or is it '13?), since DD was pushing for management to take Walker.

Jonas was horrible pick.. Raptors suck balls when it comes to the draft.. Dwane Casey obviously had a say in that pick, he's starting his job with a lot of angry Raps fans.. Good luck

WTF are you guys talking about !? The draft was completely weak ...
Considering the lock-out is looming ... it's better for the Raptors to draft a European player and send him back to develop without paying him .. teams pay salaries even when there's a lockout ....Raptors will suck next year , and that's great , they'll get another high draft pick ... but I think that most here know that next year's draft is the touted to rival the '03 one ...

The next great NBA big man.
I hope he plays college ball, and doesn't just go to the NBA after this year.

Watched a replay of the USA vs Lithuania under-19 game to get my b-ball fix. Valunciunas played for Lithuania, he looked good tbh. Great rebounder, bothered a lot of shots in the paint. But the best player on the court was Jeremy Lamb and it wasn't close. 35 pts including the game winning jumper(over Valunciunas) in OT. Next years draft class is going to be LOADED.

Re: the official Dwayne Wade >>> you thread
This lockout is going to be really bad...they won't even sit in the same room together.
As for Valunciunas...there's alot of pissed off people in Toronto with the pick cause he might just end up to be another weak European, but for me he's shown some good potential and can help with our atrocious rebounding and interior toughness.
I agree PG slot is also weak with Bayless and Calderon, but the coaches seem to be seeing something in Bayless which I aint. Fingers crossed for Kabongo next year.
Also, I think it's time we moved on Bargnani. He has potential to end up a good a shooter as Dirk (I know I'm pushing it here), but his softness and shit defence won't be tolerated by Casey. Bring in a defensive monster at the 4, and let DeRozan become the leader of the team.
And dmizee, who are some of the guys projected to go top 10 next year?

Valunciunas really impressed me in the 2 games vs. the US I watched. I think he's going to be a very good player, not sold on him being a star yet though.
And some of the guys that will go top 10 or about are:
Harrison Barnes(SF)
Terrence Jones(SF)
Perry Jones(SF)
Jeremy Lamb(SG/SF)
Jared Sullinger(PF/C)
Anthony Davis(PF)
Marquis Teague(PG)
Austin Rivers(SG)
Myck Kabongo(PG)
Michael Gilchrist(SF)
James Mcadoo(SF/PF)
Davis, Teague, Rivers, Kabongo, Gilchrist, Mcadoo are all from this years freshman class so they could potentially drop, or play themselves to #1. I think Harrison Barnes will go 1 overall but Anthony Davis could go #1 instead, he's got enormous potential.
And yeah I'd imagine Toronto would be targeting Kabongo. He would be a good look for them. I'll be interested to see how he does at Texas this year.
edit: forgot Perry Jones, he will most likely be a top 5 pick. This next draft is really SF loaded, lots of wings.

Yao Ming Retires according to Yahoo Sports.
Sad really to see a decent talent not be able to fulfill his potential. Greg Oden seems to be heading down that road as well...

Being a 7,6 who played in Reebok shoes and had a 365d Basketball year didnt help him keeping out from that injury .
Really going to miss him ... Definetily a HOFer for his contribution to the game of basketball . I'll remember him for being dunked by Kobe

If you're a player you should only make it into the HOF based on what you accomplished on the court, Yao was not a hall of fame player imo

The HOF is not the NBA HOF ... his international achievements also take count in there , and what he brought to the game also does ...

So if a Middle Eastern dude made the NBA and was an average player but had tons of fans back home he should make the NBA hall of fame?

The NBA Hall of fame doesnt exist ...
However the Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF does exist ... HOF= someone contributed to the game of basketball in variety of ways and to make basketball a better sport. The HOF is full of political contributors to the game , and if so Yao deserves to be in there . And he wasnt average as you suggest his statistics were quite great for a T-mac shadow . He's also a 3 time Champion and MVP of the FIBA Asian Championship makes it enough for him to be inducted in the hall of fame ... there are guys with lesser achievements inducted in there , and he is and was actually one of the most all-around centers the NBA has ever seen ... the best Asian player ever . Dude is a global Icon and helped change the international game forever.

Re: the official Dwayne Wade >>> you thread
Yeah, it's the basketball Hall of Fame, not just for the NBA. For example there are college coaches, announcers, and even writers. It's less than 10 minutes away from me, so I try to go there a couple times a year.
That said I believe Yao Ming will get into the Hall. What he did for basketball globally was immense, China became one of the top 3 basketball markets.

George Yardley, Arvydas Sabonis, Bill Walton, Bob Davies, George Mikan, Jim Pollard, Drazen Petrovic, Bob Houbregs, Al Cervi, Maurice Stokes and Buddy Jeannettehave ALL played less games than Yao Ming in the respective NBA careers and only George Mikan (The Original G.O.A.T.) and Bill Walton has had better NBA careers than him.

The next great NBA big man.

Upped, he just committed to UConn and is going to play this season. Repeat Champs?!
He'll do 1 year and be in the NBA draft next summer, I assume he will go top 3(most likely #1). NBADraft.net has Drummond going #1 overall in 2012 to the Wolves. Which ever team wins the lottery will probably take him depending on who they have at C.
Ricky Rubio
Wayne Ellington/Johnson/FA SG
Derrick Williams
Kevin Love
Andre Drummond
That would be a good lineup for Minny with a lot of potential.
Edit: Newest highlight vid
Looks like he improved where he releases his jumper since vid #2, it's a bit higher release now. And his passing is ridiculous as well.
I love the top comment: "people his size are not supposed to do things like that" lol

T-Wolves are deep in the front court. They have plenty of trading chips, B-Easy Mike Beasley needs to find a new home...again. If he ever gets his head straight he's Carmelo 2.0.

He had a couple of good months when he got traded originally, and yeah they do have pieces to trade. Depending on where they finish and end up in the lottery, I think they should trade Wes Johnson for a SG. They already have enough SF's with Derrick Williams, Hayward, M.Webster, and Beasley can play there.
Anyways this lockout needs to be resolved and the sooner the better.

He is, in the way that he wasn't worth a #1 or even top 5 pick. But he's got NBA PG size, he's a really great passer with good vision. He also can use the pick and roll to perfection. Besides if he plays with Drummond, he'll average 10 assists a game just throwing lobs near the rim.
