Lass, a real alternative? Empty Lass, a real alternative?

Post by Babun Mon Nov 14, 2011 11:24 am

I was just thinking, we have a lot of midfielders for 4-2-3-1 but only three of them are the real deal ( Xabi, Sahin and Khedira). Lass sucks pretty much. Now, why does he suck? eco smile

Xabi is slow( plays closer to defence to recover faster) and can't distribute under pressure properly, he needs space. We play him deeper and the other player in front of him. Something like this:

-------Xabi-----------
-------------CM-------

You can't play them the other way around with Xabi's abilities Very Happy Lass in front of Xabi is more than useless but as a ball winner and a defender he isn't crap. So, how to rotate that we get 4 proper midfielder for our 2 most important positions? eco smile
The solution:

--------Lass----------
-------------Sahin----

Sahin is perfectly comfortable in CM area and could reinforce the attack if needed. Lass won't be asked to distribute and he won't have to do it. He'll win the ball and concentrate on defending only Very Happy two ball winners, one of them offensive and the other total defensive, it would work with Sahin Very Happy
We should rotate them in pairs and that's it, all 4 midfielder are utilizable eco smile

Lass is not smart enough to cover sideline to sideline without making mistakes strategically... his scope of awareness is too small. He's also not clean enough technically.

Lass sucks because his football brain is tyrex size Very Happy

As far as rotating goes, with the season launched, and the team now in a very precise dynamic, Mourinho isnt going to rotate Xabi that much. He is just too important, not only as a player making the distribution from deep, but as a leader as well. If you need any indication, him kicking Ronaldo away from the fk spot for Sahin was BOSS. Sahin and Khedira will both play a lot with him.

I agree, Lass is a defensive beast, but for a side like ours that is ambitious about playing the ball more and holding on to the ball, as a general rule, all players need to be good on the ball, clean in the pass, and fairly intelligent in the play.

It's even more important for the double pivot. It's a weakness to pair a donkey and a distributor. Ideally, both needs to be passing outlets, and in that regard, even khedira in a more conservative style is smarter.

It's precisely why the perfect player for the task is Schweinsteiger, but since he belongs to Bayern, let's be ambitious in looking for the next best thing.

I'm not saying Lass is the next big thing but we should use what we have for now eco smile
Pairing Lass with Xabi or Khedira would be dumb eco smile And I'm talking about rotation only... eco smile

when you think about it, the best way to use Lass is as the sweeping DM. So might as well try it... it's better than what he's doing right now. Of course, he would be best suited to backup or play RB. But he doesn't want to.

I was talking about rotation. We're likely to start Xabi, Sahin and Khedira altogether against Farca eco smile

I actually have no problem with Lass sweeping deep and even distributing from deep on occasion. See his long ball and diagonals are actually quite good. People always have a go at his passing because he does not have the vision to make short forward thinking passes. I'm going to re-iterate for emphasis, Lass' long ball is not half bad.

He is going to leave Real Madrid in January.

"There's too much competition here [at Real Madrid]. I do not want to stay on the bench any longer," said Diarra.

"I am sure that my contribution could be important," he continued. "A project like Roma's would be perfect and then I want go to the Euros [with France]."

He needs to go someplace, start and shine if he wants to play for France NT. Getting called in the February friendlies is his last chance... a longshot tbh. Too many DMs on France NT as it stands. If he were a AM, Blanc would come pick him up personally for the games lol.

Another bullshit article. He had his chance last summer. Mou has said no to Granero going, that they will be no changes come January (bajas nor altas).

Why would Lass want to go? This statement that he will go to get spot on NT, turned out to be false. Why would he have stayed last summer? He is getting playing time (much more than he deserves) with Mou. He for some reason likes him. After all Mou has done for him, why would Mou let him go in January? Lass may go but it will be next summer not January.
