The next Ashes are in Australia so it'll be a very tough series for us even against a struggling team.
Not quite sure what's going wrong for them right now. The Sri Lanka series defeat was bad, but I didn't think they'd get bowled out for under a 100 on home soil. Against a South Africa without Steyn as well.

Can't fault with the performance at all overall. Defied most expectations I think.
All positives to take into the next match.

Cook now has more test centauries than Don Bradman (granted Bradman got his 29 in only 52 games). He's now equal with Mathew Hayden and Chanderpaul and two short of Steve Waugh. Overall he's 13th in the all time list. Another four 100s and he'll be equal with Brian Lara and Mahela Jayawardene.
He's now scored more 100s in Asia than other non-Asian player. He loves it there.

I blame cook tbh. Should have given more time to bowlers.

I don't think so, pitch was deteriorated considerably and it's not easy to score 250 runs in test cricket in 60 odd overs on last day.

Stupidity happened. Hameed needlessly run out, Root slogging one to a deep fielder on 60, Duckett clean bowled. At least Cook got out to a great delivery.
This test is lost though. Can't see how we'll avoid the follow-on from here and there're still three days to play.

We were doing a good job of surviving but Cook getting out on the final ball of the day is a gut punch.
Will need something special to survive tomorrow.

I think England got this if they survive first session without getting out to spinners.

Great work by Bairstow but that was pretty poor overall with that pitch imo

Re: "The Gentleman's game"- Cricket - World Cup 2019 Special
Unsurprising, really. They've struggled to get big first innings scores and when they actually got a decent one India just slapped on 600+ in reply and completely killed England's belief of getting a result. Throughout the whole series they've spent a lot of time in the field without much reward as well.
We were competitive in the first test but after that difference in quality of spinners really told. Ashwin and Jadeja took advantage of turning wickets while Rashid bowled too short and Alli failed to get any real turn. And of the quick bowlers Stokes is the only one to get any real joy while the rest struggled.
The only positives on this tour have been Hameed and Jennings.

Man does Misbah look really fit for a 42 year old. He looks more fit and athletic than all of his teammates combined ffs. Can't believe Pakistan nearly chased down 490. Love test cricket when all teams are competitive. This game was a good advert for test matches.
Also Steve Smith is easily the worst Australian captain I've ever seen. Everything about him screams un-Australian in his captaincy.

Good thing those West Indies punks don't play in this tournament. They're only meant for T20 and IPL money.
Unfortunately I don't see a Bangladesh upset today. England are breezing through in this game. Pretty boring opening game tbh.
