Re: Dark Souls
I just started on NioH. The game's pretty good, so far. I'm glad they ditched the weapon durability feature from the demo. Having to toss away your weapon for a new one every 5 minutes was more frustrating than anything else. The game's so damn dark, though. Had to turn the brightness all the way up since I couldn't see shit.

Re: Dark Souls
surprised we don't have a thread for nioh.
you don't have to toss away the weapon. you can level it up with more you kill.
It's a very dark game throughout with only few levels being in daylight lol

I had to toss weapons constantly in the demo. The durability went down super fast, and so that rare, super strong weapon I found after having died 1000 times, quickly became useless. I remember that you could fix weapons in the demo, but it was probably expensive or impractical to do so.

Re: Dark Souls
After finishing this and few weeks of reflection. I have to say this was the weakest DS game in the series but i also understand it's not a popular opinion. I think it's highly nostalgic for the fans because this gave birth to one of the greatest game series ever but objectively, both DS2 and DS3 are better imo.
I still loved it. Definitely a 9/10 game. I am glad they remastered it and i may still platinum it.
Also a bit sad that there won't be a DS4. Not for another 5 years at least i think. If there is then it won't be miyazaki who directs it.
So far this is my ranking in the soulsborne series
1) Bloodborne (might even be a top 5 game of all time)
2) Dark Souls 2
3) Dark Souls 3
4) Dark Souls 1

Re: Dark Souls
I respect your opinion but you're wrong IMO
I think we'll always rate the first Dark Souls we played as our favorite. Like I remember I played Demons Souls after Dark Souls and seeing ppl claim Demons is the best ever..and I was really underwhelmed.
I have complete faith in their upcoming game being amazing tbh, not too sad

Re: Dark Souls
Bloodborne was FROM's magnum opus. Main game was perfect (Lots of room for improvement in Chalice Dungeons), DLC was even better, combat, bosses, minibosses, enemies, weapon variety, setting, atmosphere, everything was nailed. Never got burnt out unlike Dark Souls and Nioh.

Dark Souls 2 is the only one of these I did not feel compelled to finish, or even go halfway through (and I rarely ever leave a game without at least finishing it). I played both DS1 and Bloodborne several times (did not feel Bloodborne had many different play styles though), and I am planning to play Dark Souls 3 again,
Of course, coming from DS3, I would imagine DS1 to have aged a little-bit. Especially its latter part.

Re: Dark Souls
Bought Dark Souls remastered just now, downloading while we speak. So why does a noob like me playing the Souls game you ask? Maybe after beating 8 games in a year I wanted a game to beat me or maybe I am being naughty and want someone to spank me hard. Tell me Mr. DS, will you be my daddy?

Its pretty much common knowledge that Lost Izalith and Crystal Caves are incomplete. At least Crystal Caves look pretty. I'm pretty sure people found files of a proper Witch Of Izalith boss fight which got replaced by the godawful Bed Of Chaos.
Have to say though, Black Knight Halberd+5 basically is the easy mode for this game.

You know the game is hard when it makes you sign the agreement before starting it.

I really hope you stick to it man. It may seem absolutely daunting and soul crushing at times but it's well worth it. The more you play the more you adapt and learn and it even gets easier after a while.

Re: Dark Souls
Dark Souls is by far the most rewarding game I played.
For all I love my recent games none of them truly presented challenge and maybe it is me but a bit of disappointment goes within me when I realise I don't actually have to try hard to defeat an enemy/boss.
Dark Souls is a challenge without any tactics and few games are as memorable as it be it I or II.
Definitely worth the challenge. Don't give up.

Re: Dark Souls
My strategy in both Dark Souls (yet to play 3) was full heavy armour and Uchigatana sword and usually a heavy shield.
The opposite would be of course either dual-wielding or sword-shield but favouring dexterity.
But with my combo my shield absorbed a lot of damage, held steadfast whilst the Uchigatana was fast in its counter and strikes. Heavy armour too cost me further stamina but I learned how to be economical on when to strike and roll.
Not my ideal way to attack but Dark Souls forced me to be that shell rather than learn something more daring.
General strategy usually works best in circle staffing and hitting weak points and rear stabs.
Always worth the effort though.

Re: Dark Souls
So a weird thing happened, as I was fighting a boss, he lost his balance and fell of the bridge and died. Is this game feeling sad for me? Am I being patronised? @realgunner

Re: Dark Souls
Nah there are few bosses/mob enemies you can do that too. It's called cheesing but in your case you didn't do it on purpose so well done

Don't know where the fuss about this game being "hard" comes from. Doing absolutely well so far.
