Finished the game at 100%, with all the secrets, chests etc. in 17 hours.

Very good game, recommended but short and perhaps not worth the full price for the average gamer. Definitely pick it up when it is on sale especially if you're a Star Wars fan. I am not, and have never watched any of the movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game and has prompted me to watch the film series.

The puzzles and platforming was very Tomb Raider-esque which I have always enjoyed.

Big big thumbs up to Respawn and EA for this game, didn't encounter a single game-breaking bug and only a few minor ones.

You work fast, I'm still not finished with the main path. But i did waste several hours getting stuck on puzzles because i was being stupid so that would explain it a lot.

I love the game though, it feels like it was made for me tbh. Laughing

Metroidvania level design with great combat, platforming and big zelda type puzzles. It's basically everything i love in a game.

Star Wars stuff is mainly a bonus.

BTW some voters have said Pokemon and Jedi Fallen Order didn't qualify as they didn't meet the cut off date which is insanely dumb.

It's game of the year not game of 10 months, also what is Smash doing there as it came out last year hmm

I just finished Fallen Order btw, it's my personal GOTY.

I freely admit I'm biased but it's basically my perfect game, Metroidvania level design, cool set pieces, with great bosses, platforming, awesome combat and some Zelda like puzzles.

The fact it's a star wars game is merely a bonus and as Star Wars stories go it's pretty decent too imo.

My vote will be between Daggerfall Unity alpha, and the next Tamriel Rebuilt mod for Morrowind release. Other than that, Control probably comes close. So pretty shite year, again for true gamers.

Julian and I (Vijay) have worked in multiple situations where we had to design story telling apps that would build a story around your actions. Nobody in the RPG industry as far as I know have spent the time that we have spent inside the educational industry trying to do this and we have spent a lot of time modifying prototyping and building story engine that we think will change how an RPG is done. We want to do what it felt like when a DM would sit across from you and react to what you did.

It started in infancy at Arena and was very primitive, Daggerfall was more involved and then every once in a while, years after it was obvious that a story engine would be needed and it would get more advanced every time I was on educational products. At this point I've been tinkering with it on and off for a few decades. It's gotten pretty good at this point. We hope it will be able to drive stories that would simulate a real person, Dungeon Master specifically, and continually keep the player with some decent stories but also make sure that there is continuation to these stories that would affect the world in a meaningful way and in a persistent way so there is meaning in the short term to the quests and meaning after the quest is completed. That's the idea and it looks like after all that time, the technology will be able to do something like that. That's one of the many goals from the technology side we want to accomplish.

If they make AI generated story progression work, it will be the biggest thing in RPG's since like, ever.

got about 5 gyms into Pokemon, maybe 6 and having to force myself to turn the Switch on now

think I'm done, ain't nobody etc, now to wait for early 2020, need Cyberpunk and Nioh 2 to save gaming

Why you ignoring Outer Worlds, RE2, Control, Jedi, Judgement etc.

Black Friday sale got a lot of the latest games on decent discounts.

My list would probably look quite similar to yours. I haven’t played any of your honorable mentions, though.

It was difficult to choose the top between RDR and BotW, but in the end RDR just edged it due to having one of the most touching stories in a video game.
