Re: Buffoon would sooner drag Juve and the Italy NT than retire
It really sucks that the game had to be decided with a penalty after Juve tactically outmatched RM for the majority of the match. That said, Benatia and Buffon both let their team down, and I hope Warrior doesn’t sleep tonight That was an ice cold, elite level penalty. CR has nerves of steel.

Been pissed at our old guards lack of aggression in big games but we finally get it right and Buffon was a *bleep* animal tonight.

Um, not that it matters but Buffon getting sent off was an unfortunate circumstance. However, he didn't cause the PK, Benetia did. One man undone an entire match of real supremacy.

Buffon on tonight's ref Michael Oliver - "The referee has a trashcan where his heart should be."

Yeah, I don't blame his words at all, that was a brave (and correct) call to make at the dying end of what was a brilliant match from Juventus and Buffon's reaction is really understandable.

understandable reaction, but you're a goalkeeper, there's a penalty, you need to be in the post to save it. i can't remember when a referee has ever immediately after a protest rescinded his decision, poor move from buffon especially as it was a legit call. after the game you can let the referee know how you feel to your heart's content. he didn't help in that respect......we were awful.

Re: Buffoon would sooner drag Juve and the Italy NT than retire
This is by far the worst thread on this forum. Wrong on so many levels.
Buffon is overrated, Buffon is a media thing, Buffon is finished since 2006, Buffon is responsible for Juve and Italy's defeats, Buffon is a worse man than Icardi, Sczesny is better than Buffon... Nothing i haven't read on here.
Thankfully Gigi is way above all this crap, and i'll sleep damn well tonight knowing that. Flawless performance for his curtain call, just to remind us how much of a legend he has been. Told the ref to fck off because he knew we were screwed and he had to make a memorable exit.

If you don’t like the thread, you can just not click it then.
Juve aren’t going to win CL with Buffon, that much is clear to me. Me and Robes have been on this since day 1, no one is forcing you to read.

Buffon for me is the best keeper of all time, but as a leader of Juve, you have to do what ever is necessary to stay in the game. You're never going to change a referees mind with physical force or screaming in his face.

Re: Buffoon would sooner drag Juve and the Italy NT than retire
Emotion got the best of him. It's happened to so many other greats in the game at one point or another in their careers. Zidane knows a thing or 2 about that, I'd imagine.
Buffon has been an absolute statesman of the game for so long. So cool, so calm and so composed. His reputation has always demanded that he be the cooler head in situations like this and he's been that player on so many occasions, several in recent years of course. A reaction like that was coming sooner or later as every player reaching their boiling point. He's only human after all.
Sad to read the abuse he's gotten over the last few years. He doesn't deserve it. He's undoubtedly an all-time great in my eyes. He's firmly in that discussion.

So , red card on his last CL match.
It is not casual.
This happen when you don't realize when it is the right moment to retire, so you wait every important match with excessive tension,as if it is your last chance in career . And so you feel as if others want to rob you of something that you think is rightfully yours, and at the end it makes you losing the sense of the measure and any residue of sportiness.
Buffon pays for his sins , but he lays the blame on GOATver.

Gigi is completely wrong in this instance. Just because Juventus had a great game doesn't mean every call should be in their favour.
A penalty is a penalty, doesn't matter what minute it is and what is the given result.
Pathetic end to Buffon's career.

GOAT
According to Tuttosport, last night’s clean sheet was Buffon’s 300th for Juve, in his 655th appearance.
That means the veteran has kept a clean sheet in just under 46 per cent of his matches for Juventus across all competitions.
Buffon already holds several records, including longest time without conceding a Serie A goal [974 minutes], most consecutive Serie A clean sheets [10] and most clean sheets in a Serie A season [21 in 2011–12 and 2015–16].

He had an average game yesterday, not contesting that, but our defense is utterly ridiculous this year.
You can pick one or two games every few months to highlight how bad he is, bit it just makes you look silly.
rincon wrote:Regardless of nonsense said in this thread he isn't finished. He comes back from the injury and saves a penalty against Atalanta last week. He had some good saves then he made mistakes. He had a bad game, it happens.
The best news Juve could get is that Buffon decides to extend this summer instead of retiring. Its all set and everyone in the club (including Buffon) agrees that Szczesny will be #1 next season. Having Buffon as second keeper would be incredible. Better than being stuck with a Consigli.
Warrior wrote:He disrespects Juve on a daily basis
Buffon got his fair share of hatred already... the downside of being a perfect man i suppose
S wrote:Calm down you clowns. As if Italy have a string of De Gea's and Neuer's waiting to take over LMAO. He's going to retire at the end of this season anyway. He's hardly the problem.
Look at the bigger issue. A big NT like Italy have Immobile as their starting striker. What else did you expect ? They're never going to get anywhere with these mental midgets like Insigne and Immobile.

Yeah, Buffon wouldn't cut it as a 2nd keeper at a top club either. Should have really just retired and enjoy that post football fame and fortune.

Re: Buffoon would sooner drag Juve and the Italy NT than retire
Shit end of career for Buffon
Since the kick-off at Cardiff it's been a lot of sadness: CL loss, fail to qualify for the World Cup, Astori's death, sent off vs Real, joins QSG. Damn. It kinda hurts because he's been my favorite player since the very beginning, made me fall in love with Juve. Now the only time Buffon is mentioned it's to say "he's old, he should retire, etc" and it sucks.
Last year it had nothing to do with performance, he was never our biggest liability, even if he made more mistakes than before. My conclusion is he should have retired at Juve, as he said he would. Cannot defend him right now.

Warrior relax.
Buffon's wagon of disdain is the same as San Iker. No one has mentioned for over a season that Iker has been performing terrifically and especially in the two legs versus Roma just as no one has mentioned Buffon's storied performances for PSG in Ligue 1 and yet Ligue 1 is what it may be but that does not negate from a goalkeeper's performances.
Gigi has those odd dip in performances since his reflexes are gone and he basically relies purely on his wits and judgement of trajectories.

Re: Buffoon would sooner drag Juve and the Italy NT than retire
What bothers me is the combo of:
The Ls he took with Juve & Italy in recent times (not his fault)
+
Playing for PSG and taking another L, well-expected this time
Left to join a lesser club, it was a poor decision by him. Would have been much more convenient to retire last summer. Nobody talks about a good performance in Ligue 1, he supposedly went there to win CL and didn't reach further than Juve.
All i'm saying is Buffon is a legend, he deserved to retire under successful conditions and i'm sad it didn't happen. You guys stimulated my juventino feelings with that bs Tony Adams thread, and then i came across this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
