You can't expect an athlete nowadays to live on £250k a week ffs, that amounts to slave labour. Obviously, Rooney did what he had to to support his family

Yanited don't have too much of a choice. Rooney is their only proven world class player right now. Can't count on RVP as he's 31 next season and injury-prone. He'll be finished within the next 18 months. That kind of age coupled with injury interruptions every now and then is always bad news for a striker's form. I also somewhat suspect he doesn't care anymore after he reached his goal and won a trophy and after SAF has left. Yanited don't have the pulling power to attract a proper replacement either right now. Only calibers like Cavani would do (with Mata behind that would somewhat soften the blow of losing Rooney) but they are not getting those kind of players if recent history is anything to go by.

It has a lot to with the circumstances. United would not have succumbed to this demands if they were on top of the league with most of the team performing well. Moyes and United know they have to do everything they can to avoid more bad name or more angry reaction from the fans/media.

I don't think 300k p/w is as outrageous though. Rooney is worth it. He is a monster when he wants to be. Probably the best player in the league too. United can afford it so it is not a massive deal. If Rooney takes them to the top 4 then no one will remember his wages.

300k isn't all that bad considering what others get nowadays. Plus it makes sense for him to be captain. Vidic is probably out this summer and Rooney's English and been at Man Utd for a long time.

he earns 14m a year, simple math = 291.6k p/w
apply the 45% tax to his salary and yeah youll get close to 160k

now is Rooney asking for 300k after tax?? or a torres like contract.. because if that's the case then I think he more then deserves it when compared to other players

Of course everything is after tax. If we included tax, Ibra is by far the most expensive player in the world and its not even close.

No one quotes after tax figures. With that in mind, Torres obviously does.
