how many GK are better than courtois nowadays? cech, neuer, maybe valdes who else? buffon is a dud, casillas is a dud, San Diego, lloris and de gea are close behind, sirigu as well.

yes valdes is better than buffon. we are not in 2008 anymore, or whatever year was it that Buffon was the best GK around. And it's normal, Buffon is an old man now, cant stay the best all his career.

Kiko Casillas is a beast, don't know if you have watched him at all.

Courtois is also very good, but not at all one of the best 5 GK in the world. He has not been dominating the league, Atletico has the strongest defence right now, but Courtois isn't the reason they concede so little. He isn't a great shot stopper, letting many savable Cristiano long shots in, and is weak in one on ones because he is so slow and goes down to easy.

Nothing wrong with him saying this. It's like Ibra or Ronaldo saying they are the best in the world. It's not true, but as a player you need to believe you are to be competitive.

How is it not true, he is not claiming to be the best, he is saying he is top 5, which is fairly reasonable.

Its not reasonable because there are like 10 better.

And I agree, there is nothing wrong with believing this is true if it gives him confidence. But saying it does nothing but make him seem arrogant and ahead of himself.

And to be fair to Cristiano and Ibra, they have performed and have years in the game, a resume. What does this guy have?

He is a top five goalkeeper at best. I would love to see all of his "blooper reel" actually listed rather than seeing two or three incidents over the past year and a half or so that suddenly means he is just a decent goalkeeper.

De Gea and Lloris.. awfully overrated keepers. Stop this please.

Lloris might be good for France but in PL he has been downright average.

Courtois is the best young GK out there for me. Been impressed whenever I've seen him. Don't know where he ranks on the whole, though.

He does struggle with low shots though. He has let in several save able goals when a low shot is directed right at his body. It may be because of height, but it is definitely a weakness. I still think he is a very good keeper, but I would rather have De Gea.

Im good with the 6 Free named, plus De Gea and Lloris. Throw in Julio Cesar, im still happier with. Even Weidenfeller I find safer.

This guy is on Joe Hart level, hes talented but error prone. He has time to grow but right now, no.

And this is not even including goalkeepers I have not seen enough of (so a whole host of possibilities in France, Germany and Italy) aswell as goalkeepers who looks at least as talented but remain untested to some degree. The Celtic goalie for instance, or Rui Patrício.

In my eyes, he is struggling to make top 10 and this is imaging he is better than every single keeper in France, Germany and Italy minus basically Neuer and Weidenfeller...which I find hard to believe.

Is he is clearly better than Muslera? Sirigu? Marchetti? Andujar (unbelievable stats btw)? Ruffier? Handanovic? Leno? Ter Stegen? Who knows, but I dont.

All these possibilities, no way is this guy the best or even really close to it.

Yes, I am aware that he is relatively average with some low attempts on goal and there have been times where he has fumbled long ranged attempts, but definitely not enough to call him error-prone. At his best, he is a top goalkeeper but I would definitely agree with De Gea being a better goalkeeper than Courtois. Courtois does have fantastic reflexes and has a very strong presence mostly due to his size, which is something De Gea struggled with before, but you rarely see it now. I also do not think Courtois has good distribution, sometimes it's just downright poor. What were these "several save able [sic] goals" from him? If I recall correctly, Courtois has only made only one clear error over the past 12 months.

Courtois might be the most bizarrely hated player on GL.


For those saying his goals conceded per game + clean sheet records are flukes explain his form for Belgium and Genk then

No keeper has conceded less and kept more clean sheets than Courtois throughout WC qualifying. Only conceded 3 goals in 7 games, not bad for an error prone scrub.

I approve of this. I just played as Atleti in FIFA 14 and won three games in a row with him facing Dortmund, Chelsea, and PSG and Courtios was MOTM in all three didn't concede a single goal

One of his biggest strengths is his concentration ffs. His composure at such a young age is remarkable, lad is hardly ever flustered.

He's fantastic 1v1, in the air and has superb reflexes as well. His only weakness is on long shots, he concedes far too many screamers for it to be a coincidence. Distribution could also do with a bit of work as well.

He lets in too many long shots (by your own admission) and fumbles too many balls...are they not errors?
