Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling arrested and will appear in court on charge of assault

Raheem Sterling has been arrested after an allegation of assault was made against the Liverpool winger.

The 18-year-old spent Thursday night in a police cell on Merseyside, and he will appear at the city’s magistrates court of Friday to answer the charge.

He was arrested at 10.30pm yesterday evening in Page Moss, and it is not the first time Sterling has had a brush with the law.

He was named yesterday in Roy Hodgson’s Under-21 side to face Scotland next week, with the senior side boss taking charge of the youth team while a replacement for Stuart Pearce is found.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo last month, Sterling said: “I didn’t think so at the time, but the break I had probably did me good.”

“You want to play as many games as you can but mentally as well as physically I probably needed a rest.

“At the time there were a few things going on off the field. That time I spent out means I’m raring to go for the new season.

“Now it’s up to me. I need to kick-on and prove I really did deserve those call-ups; that it wasn’t just a fluke. I have a lot to prove this season.”

Pretty sure Sterling was born in London, most English players just can't behave but I don't blame them. They are surrounded by money and hoes so its alright to go off the rail once in a while

Makes sense, if he assaulted a male above the age of 14, chances are he'd be pleading 'not guilty' from a hospital bed

You'd be surprised what constitutes assault in the UK. Anyway probably best to wait for details and keep in mind that following cases through the media usually isn't a great idea since they always skim over the legal reasoning behind decisions.
