Btw, Verminator, there are tons of intermediate fossils between our Ape common ancestor with Chimpanzees and Gorillas:Austrolopitecus, Homo Abilis, Homo Erectus(extinct), Homo mauritanicus, homo rodensiensis, and finally us, Homo Sapiens Sapiens.

You can see how this fossiles are going from more ape to more human quite clearly.

Even if we had no remains of our closer relatives it wouldn't render evolution useless.

Just by observing Darwin's finches at Galapagos islands (those are the islands where Darwin's original hypothesis came from) you can tell the mechanisms of evolution are in place.

"Why Evolution Is True" by Jerry Coyne is an excellent book which anyone who is unfamiliar with evolution should read. You'll learn the mechanisms of evolution and then see if the evidence speaks for itself.

Darwin may be known as the father of evolution or whatever he is called, but the very first ideas of evolution was actually presented by a Muslim Scholar called Al Jahiz.. back in 800.

I think you'll find them even earlier. Anaximander was probably the first to even mention the idea that man might have come from the oceans. Lucretius, a man whom I admire greatly, had some evolutionary ideas as well.

All of these are very primitive and erroneous compared to Darwin's theory though.

If I'm not mistaken most earlier ideas of what "evolution" might work like are more like Lamarqck than Darwin, right?

Well, we can't expect too much anyway, the scientific method is quite a young set of tools - but it's the sharpest tools we have so far. The way mankinds wisdom has exploded since it's come up - awe-inspiring.

That's just propaganda based on a common pyschological problem - people tend to remember the past fondly, sure, big traumatic events aren't forgotten, but the annoyances of everyday life - nobody remembers those. That's why you always hear that everything was better a couple decades ago. When it wasn't.

Especially not in Europe. We went from killing each other about twice a generation to having now the fourth full generation without a war on home soil. If that isn't a win, I don't know what.

And nevermind the huge amounts of education and information even average people receive nowadays. It's mind-boggling how much humanity has progressed. Even places that lag behind are going places. Eventually.

I applause you for believing in that, Trust me i would do anything to take a similiar approach but that would mean going under the illusion of " The Perfect World" Which the System wants you to believe in.

No it wouldn't. I agree with Viva and I'm not (nor do I believe he is) under an illusion that the world is perfect. By far. And what system is it that you speak of? Every time I watch the news I see some massacre being carried out around the globe.

Anyway, information has never been so easily accessible as it is now. We have eradicated most of the deadliest diseases known to mankind. Communication across boarders and across cultures has never been so potent and friendly. Most dictators, war criminals and oppressors have been brought to justice. Africa, I've been told, has within decades developed at the rate of centuries compared to Europe when it was in a similar state.

I wouldn't exchange the prosperity that we have today with the famine that infested the globe just a couple of decades ago.

No it's not, we got modern medicine, rule of law, habeus corpus, equal rights, civil liberties, freedom of speech - at least Germany didn't have any of those 100 years ago.

If you weren't rich you couldn't afford to leave your region, or basically anything beyond food and shelter, entertainment consisted of crude theater plays you and I wouldn't have been able to afford, medicine basically was some hack infecting you with the disease of the last person he was treating and we would probably all have died of syphilis by now.

sure we have better medicine but we have better weapons as well, we have more rights but we have less time to practice them. We have more resources, more money, but we're never satisfied, never fulfilled. People have the freedom to think but they never think freely, we have equal rights but economic equality is as bad as ever, equal opportunities my ass. It's much easier to survive in this world, but with simplicity comes the lack enjoyment, buying food from a super market does not even come close to growing your own grains. We're programmed to survive, but that is no longer a challenge and without a goal life becomes hollow.

That was neither political nor religious, though. Poor fella just snapped. My condolences to everyone involved, especially the families of the victims and the guy who went amok. They'll have it just as hard. They all lost family. Should probably have it's own thread though.
