The best defensive fullbacks.

I just wanted to know what u guys think about fullbacks. Its just a knowledge topic, nothing related to madrid.

There are many types of fullbacks, small and quick, tall strong and fast, medium skiny and quick.

Aside for their marking, positioning and tackling, vision and tactical/technical knowledge, i want to consentrate on their physical ability. which is one of their most important aspects, many different physical ability can generate different style of defending.

I wanted to know what kind of physical ability will make the perfect defensive fullback. Nothing to do with their attacking ability.

In most of the cases, Tall fullbacks are a bit slower but better blockers of the ball and can shrugh of wingers. like for example ramos, cissokho, taiwo etc.

small fullbacks are quicker thus quick recovery to their mistakes while they are small thus might loose areal and strength battle against tall and strong wingers like ronaldo for example.

I am sure this is not always the case but mostly it happens like that.

Which size of fullback will u perfer, i divided them into catagories.

1- 184 - 190 cm
2- 178 - 183 cm
3- 170 - 177 cm

I know this might seem a silly and stupid topic, but its more of a study for me, i observe these details alot but i also want others openions.

Alvaro Arbeloa Coca

nice choice, arbeloa tall and skinny (thus better reactions) with great tackling, positioning and tactical sense. But he is slow in term of pace, although not a problem for him cuz he is such a master in his defensive ability. If only he had pace to booomb forward like a bullet. he would have been a perfect RB.

his competion, sergio ramos has the same height, but he is bigger, stronger, but no so great positioning / tactical for the fullback.

Sagna is the other one Lahm could play RB as well

Abidal and Sagna. A couple of years ago, Evra.

Sagna - 176cm - Bulky
Abidal - 186cm - Skinny
Arbeloa - 183cm - Skinny
Evra - 173cm - Medium/Bulky

interestingly, Arbeloa and Abidal are the strongest of that group mag. You just can't move them.

As far as RBs, Arbeloa and Sagna are the two that come to mind that really concentrate on defense. They're good at making overlap runs, but have a hard time with consistently good centering balls.

Personally, i like corner defenders who defend first and make the correct runs to overlap. All the rest is secondary to me.

same here sporty, it always defence first with me for the backline.
