Right now, yes he does need to, but I believe that he will stay consistent and win so many things with the club at the end of his career, trophies, balon d'ors and personal awards that he will just have surpassed anybody at at least the club level that it won't matter how well he did in the international level, but I think if Argentina can produce a couple good defenders and get a good coach that Argentina will do great in the next 1-2 world cups.

Ya I don't know where you got that number but 2011 Messi has 2 goals and 10 assists this is because he plays more like a playmaker, therefore he always drops back to help move the ball forward, he can't do that and then be forward scoring. If higuain would finish more Messi would have crazy assist numbers! At barca Messi goes forward because there are players like Xavi and intiesta who do the playmaking!!!
