Santiago Bernabeu (Real Madrid president between 1943-1978) was a monarchist and couldn't stand Franco. The tension between the parties were so high that Franco didn't allow RM to build a new stadium in Fuencarral. The negative climax in their relationship was achieved when S.Bernabeu awarded club gold medal to Israelian politician and general Mosche Dajan. It happened at a time when Franco refused the existence of the state Israel.

When Real Madrid won their first CL title ( it was called Europa Cup back then, the game was between RM and the French side Stade de Reims (1956), end result 4-3), players were awarded CL winner bonus equal to 643€ (107000 pesetas)

P.S. If we manage to win CL this year I doubt 643€ would be enough The 4-3 game was legendary

Yeah if people were smart enough they would read our history, Franco simply used our club as a propaganda tool to be disposed of and we didn't really have a choice.

Barca had a closer relation to Franco than Santiago had btw
