Pele won 3 world cups, but he won 1 Golden Ball and was 2 times in team of the tournament.
1970 Pele won Golden ball, 1962. Garincha won it and 1958. (Pele was not even in top 11), 1958. Didi (Brazil) won it, Pele was second.
PELE NEVER PLAYED IN EUROPE, NOT EVEN IN THAT OLD UNPROFESSIONAL AGE
Pele played in Brazil and in USA. That was time when football was just game, the were not professionals, league was not professional league. Even European top leagues in those days were not good as they are today. In 50's and 60's Defence was crap, goalkeepers were nothing if we compare then even with football from 70's. Yes he was playing even in 70's... but did he face Ajax or Barca in those times? NOT!!! His best year was 1970. when he won golden ball.

I will left those one like Cruyff, Maradona, Platini... etc. Just look back at last 15 years: Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Romario, Kaka, Cristiano, Messi, Zidane, Figo... etc. Modern player, on higher level, against better defence, against better goalkeepers. I'm am not saying that they are all better than Pele is... But Ronaldo El Phenomeno fur sure is!!! Messi is!!! Even Cristiano is real treath to this old man!!!

I agree with your grandfather from i have seen on old tapes and what i have been told by people that saw them none the less time to exit before this gets nasty.

Brazilian domestic league was as good as any in the world until the 90s imo. Maybe the best. Remember that clubs in Europe were only allowed 3 international players on their squads. There was no Europe then... so we're talking only 3 non-nationals.

Who cares. Everyone knows modern football beats the F out of old football but it doesn't make Pele a bad player. He dominated the league that dominated the world and his league dominated becouse of him, that's enough ffs.

just take all these players:messi,aguero,zanetti,cambiasso,pato,falcao,thiago silva,lucio,ganso,neymar nilmar,valencia,dani alves,maicon,alexis sanchez,vidal etc and put them in south america.
south american clubs would beast a lot of european clubs,specially english and itlaian leagues

Ajax was a great team in the 70s, but Barcelona was crap until the 1990s as far as Champions League is concerned.

As far as talent, Brazilian league was the best easily. Tactically, they were trying to all emulate the "Joga Bonito"... so they could get caught by sound defensive teams, and often did back in those days on the NT. But really, the 1982 Brazil NT was just sickeningly talented.
To me, Zico was the best player in the world those days. Socrates was the best midfielder.
I'm 39, so i got to see a little bit of it.

To get back to Pele, it's like Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain in basketball... They were great athletes by today's standards. Back then, Pele was just just athletically way above everyone else. Add the technique and flair... best player ever.

I know a lot of Brazilians that say that Pele is not even the best Brazilian. Hence why I could not consider him the best ever.
That being said, the 'didn't play in Europe' argument is bull. At that time Santos was the best team in the world, why would he want to go to Europe?

1st tier:Pele,Maradona,Cruyff etc

Funny how you failed to mention on how Pele inspired Santos to two back to back Libertadores (which was much more harder than the European Cup) and Intercontinental Cup (the most important competition in the world at that time) was the hero of 1958 World Cup and the best player of 1970. You are just reading his achievements in the internet and saying OMGZ HE IS NOT THE BEST EVER!!!!111!!! I don't think this is a coincidence that Pele said something about Messi and two minutes later a Barca fan comes and degrades him.
Pele was literally a god amongst men, defences were crap at the 50s lol. Pele was given appalling treatment by defenders, suffered horrific injuries and still came back to pwn all. He was the complete player, a cracking left foot, a cracking right foot, unstoppable heading, super speed, awesome dribbling you name it.
