Re: Our Squad
I wouldn't mind a younger option who better suits our requirements for the role if one becomes available, but I don't think that the club should spend massive money to replace Lucas with other positions crying out for addressing first.

Re: Our Squad
Both Fabio Borini and Iago Aspas were on target as Liverpool FC thumped Shamrock Rovers 4-0 in a low-key end-of-season friendly in Dublin - but only one of them has a future at Anfield.
Borini will be given the opportunity to kick-start his Anfield career when Brendan Rodgers' players reconvene at Melwood in July.
The Italian frontman showcased the benefits of his season-long loan spell at Sunderland as he proved to be a constant menace against admittedly limited League of Ireland opposition.
However, for Aspas this is the end of the road. The Spaniard displayed plenty of neat touches and one clinical finish but this was a case of too little too late.
...
“I thought Fabio was excellent,” he [Rodgers] said.
“With Fabio, it was just a case of us having Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, who I felt were going to play a lot of games.
“We had no European football, and Luis is so robust and plays every minute of every game. We were always going to be limited in terms of the game time we could offer Fabio.
“I felt for his development it was best he went on loan. It was nothing to do with me not thinking he was a quality player because I know him better than anyone.
“He needed to go out and get games, and to prove his worth and get experience, and he's done that.
“He has shown, especially in the big games, that he can score goals at this level. We have got back a better player.
“Now, a year later, he will come back into our squad this summer. And you saw there with his pace and his power and his ability to get a goal, he is going to add to the quality that we already have.”
Expect Borini to stay at LFC and play a significant role next season.

Re: Our Squad
As expected. Borini was always going to be given a proper chance. Aspas was never good enough for us. So hopefully we find a taker.

I hope Sturrdige stays with 15. Absolutely beautiful number. But Raheem really does need a more important number.

Re: Our Squad
Suso is staying lads. Told you he would stay and fight for first team football, not sure why people were saying he was demanding it.
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/166251-suso-i-want-to-stay-and-stake-my-claim
Our next big thing.
Won't be surprised if he ousts Coutinho out of the starting XI.
After the season in Spain, I think I have become a better player - I learned a lot," Suso told Liverpoolfc.com as the first week of sessions concluded in West Derby.
"Obviously Liverpool are going to sign a lot of players because we are in the Champions League this season, and we have to have a good squad because there are a lot of competitions.
"But if I fight for my place, I do my best every day in training and when I have the chance to come on or start a game, if I do well, I could have chances to play a lot of minutes in the first team.
"I came here in December at Christmas when I had my week of holidays. In Spain, we have a one-week break at Christmas and I came here for two or three days to have a meeting with the manager.
"He talked to me, said he was happy with what I was doing and said that this season he wants me to stay here. I want to stay here and sign a new deal.
"For me, there is no bigger club than Liverpool. The crowd, the people, the stadium and the Kop - that's a feeling that you cannot explain. You have to live that just to know what you feel.
"It's a really good experience. Last season I was at many stadiums and I never saw a stadium like Anfield. My option is to stay here, sign a new contract and fight for my place."
Based in another country he may have been, but Suso was following the Reds' exploits closely last season, as a long-awaited championship narrowly eluded Rodgers' free-flowing team.
He said: "I was following every Liverpool game, watching every game, and I was really happy when I saw that Liverpool were winning, top of the league and could win the Premier League.
"It's a big difference - Liverpool fighting to win the league and we were fighting to not get relegated. But that's the difference between a small club and a big club like Liverpool.
"In this case, you appreciate the big things that a club like Liverpool do. Living in another city was a big difference but it was good for me to see the difference and appreciate this club as well."
In conversation with Suso, it becomes noticeable how many times the No.30 uses the word 'learn', repeatedly stressing the necessity to evolve and improve under any circumstances.
Analysing the 12 months he spent representing the shirt of Almeria, the Cadiz native considers the education - though different to life on Merseyside - to have been hugely beneficial.
"When I was here in Liverpool the season before last, I played a lot of minutes here and I was really happy, because to be 18 or 19 years old and playing in the first team of Liverpool is a big thing," the Spain youth international added.
"But I wanted to play every week, full games, and I did that last season. I started every game except for five or six games, and I was really happy because the team did not get relegated to the Second Division. That was important.
"I learned a lot in every game and every week in training, with some other players - maybe not the same quality as here, but they were good.
"I enjoyed it so much because I wanted to get minutes, and to go on loan for one year just to play football. I knew that if I stayed here, I'd maybe play a lot less than I did last season.
"So I wanted to go on loan and get some experience in the First Division. We all know that in Spain the First Division is really hard, like here in England. I wanted to go to get minutes and experience back in Spain.
"That's why I went on loan - to learn. Every time I come here for training, I try to learn from the players. Last season in Spain, all I wanted to do was get minutes. I played with other players, older players, on the pitch. What I tried to do was to learn."

The only ousting Suso is going to be doing is ousting Enrique away from his home after a get together on día de todos los Santos. They have some weird onesided bromance thing going.
OT I hope he stays with us for a long time and reaches his potential. Could be a legend if Brendan mentors him correctly.

Re: Our Squad
Probably something like what you have Ifthi but I just don't see how Coutinho will be benched. He's too good and too creative. Especially with losing Suarez, he's gonna have to start.
If we go by last year our two formations will most likely be 4-3-3 and 4-4-2(diamond).
Mignolet
Flanno - Ilori - Sakho - Enrique
Gerrard
Hendo - Coutinho
Sterling
Markovic - Sturridge
We'll definitely have some sort of rotation with Coutinho, Sterling, Lallana and Markovic to get them all optimal amount of valuable minutes. Possibly another attacker of their quality still to be signed.

Re: Our Squad
Think Emre "Chan/Jan" could be a brilliant piece of buisness, He could do better than Allen and Henderson in terms of defending.
Also dont think Markovic will start every week, Lallana will be ahead of him in the pecking order for the first few games.

Assuming Lovren goes through:
If another striker is added it gets more complicated.
Johnson - Lovren - Sakho - Enrique
Henderson - Gerrard - Coutinho
Sterling - Sturridge - Lallana

although I have written in summer thread, we need one more signing. I do not like brining in too many players in one season-at least first teamers. But it seems inevitable for this season

Re: Our Squad
If I'm honest now, if we do get Remy and Sturridge does get injured during the season, I'm not at all as worried as I would've been if we only had Borini/Lambert to come in and take his place. Hypothetically speaking, I don't think we'll lose much with Remy until Daniel gets back fit.
