Is Bacary Sagna
When I think of Bacary Sagna, I think these things:
-Consistency
-Duty without question
-Quietly efficient
-Under appreciated Dark horse
-Phenom in attack
-Rock in the back
-Awful hair.
We have our Phillip Lahm (my fav and the best) Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves, Maggio, Maicon and others.
Yet I never hear about the most consistent player in the Arsenal ranks.
In defense, he is lightning quick, yet uses it resourcefully, efficiently and only when needed. Yet his intelligence, awareness, and overall observant prediction on the oncoming attack is superb as I rarely see any attacker trouble the Frenchman.
In attack, he zips along the line like a gazelle and links up beautifully with his team mates. He adds the finishing touch to his metres ran with pinpoint needle crosses that seem to home into the target like its made to.
Consistency, consistency, consistency, this is the dominant adjective from the above that always come to my mind.
Lahm without a doubt is the best RB and I love Sergio but I'd have to go as far as saying Sagna is by far the 2nd best RB in the world as here is a man who not only sets an example for his team and watchers with his unending consistency, he sets an example to the young pre-maddonnas and money hungry mercenaries of today (you know who). I rarely see such a great player with such consistency, who never questions his coach and teammates, keep his head down and honor the crest.
Hats off to Arsenal's quiet frenchman of the backline.

Thats when people are obliged to think of the best right backs.
But is he really mentioned here enough? Or in the media for that matter?
Not really Nick.

Great defensively, not the greatest attacking wise but not the worst either.
He was in the premier league XI, but is still not hyped about as he should be.

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
It's a shame he's had to perform with such a motley crew of make-shift defenders at Arsenal for so long, they make him look bad-by-proxy
He'd have easily slotted in with Adams, Bould, Wrighty, Winterburn, Keown etc

Well said.
I mean think about it.
Most Fullbacks of today, receive ample support from their midfield in defense as this only makes them look better.
The injustice with Sagna is that its he doesn't exactly a partner in the midfield to support him in defense nor has he had the best CBs on his side to justify his work (Sqillashit and Agent Silvestre come to mind).
Not only that, I have seen time and time again how he covers for his less defensively talented defense, yet its the way he does it..... like its his job or part of his routine.
Like a good father. :!:

i guarantee you that if you make a poll about top fullbacks, he will always get talked about. In between Inter fans trying to prove Maicon is still relevant, Barcelona fans forcing people to admit against their good reasoning that Alves is the best, and madrid fans fighting to keep Ramos in the conversation, he will get mentioned a lot by the neutrals. But not at the top, always near 4th or 5th depending on the individual.

Your definitely right Nick.
But I'm saying he only seems to be mentioned when the Right back discussion pops up as Maicon, Alves etc names are mentioned regardless.
Frankly, I could say the same for Lahm.

he can't cross? are you serious?
lol but he is really really good, if he keeps doing this he might be in contention for our best RB ever a lot more to do though
he is also very very loyal

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
Sagna isn't the best crosser, sure. But he's so solid it doesn't really matter. Another plus is that he's never injured and has 3 lungs. He doesn't seem to be the best attacker, because he carefuly chooses when to go in attack and isn't a gung ho like most others. He's never caught out of position or leaves a whole behind.
Lahm would take this, but since he's back at LB... Trully top 3, IMO. Only Alves compares currently.

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
I think he isn't good at all going forward, and anyway, the best RB in the world is Dani Alves by some distance, then Lamb, then the rest of good RB, Sagna included.

Actually I forgot to mention Alves as I get confused often with positions with nowadays versatile fbs.
So Sagna is 3rd and underrated.
Although I rate Lahm above Alves.

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
Sagna's crossing last season was amazing.
He was giving pinpoint crosses which helped Arsenal a lot in terms of attack, not to mention he is always available for a pass and is solid defensively.
Basically everything that has been said here, except that Sagna's crossing is really good in terms of accuracy!

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
Underrated for sure.
Crossing might not be the best, but he has gotten a good number of assists every season just like Ali showed. Its not as "God-awful" as some might think, but it does make me feel like choking myself sometimes.
Defensively, he is second to none. Offensively is where he might be lacking, but even then its not exactly a "weakness" to his game really; its just that there are better RBs offensively.
To be honest, I'd only take Lahm over him but even then, I like Sagna too much to do that
3rd best RB in the world currently. He's been consistently this good for year after year

Re: Is Bacary Sagna
I wouldn't say a Defensive FB but a Physical one.
Lasts forever, decent defending, quick, tough tackle.
I rate Revelliere who is even more underrated here, due to him playing at Lyon.
