Re: Why English players don't play for leagues outside the EPL???
I cut the discussions about English players from the transfer talk as it looks like a fairly interesting discussion, but I would like to ask you to keep it civil, please!

France is a nation that suffers from the 'empire mentality' twice as much, you've probably never been so haven't exp French arrogance first hand.jibers wrote:It's the empire mentality that still pertains in Britain today. Everyone in Europe can speak multiple languages and can speak English better than most people in this country (UK) atm. We refuse to learn other languages and when we go abroad we expect them to speak English. This is also shown in our football, where we refuse to use new training methods and improve, believing our way is superior despite the results. They are too comfortable in England. It's no surprise that Hargreaves was technically superior to all our mf playing atm and he didn't learn his football in this country. Spain has reached this level because of importing ideas from multiple nations. England continually refuse to look outside. It's more than football, it's a mentality.Motogp69 wrote:You don't find it odd that literally no good English talent really plays outside of England?

In England they pay the best wages and playing in one of the best leagues in the world
It's a no-brainer.

There is no need to want to leave Britain though, as much as people enjoy slagging it off, it still remains one of the best places to live in Europe.
Of course the weather is crap, but who says you cant go on holiday twice a year to a sunny climate?

I remember that Bayern wanted to sign Leighton Baines before David Alaba broke through, but Baines turned down the offer as he supposedly didn't want to leave his family in England. I wonder if he didn't regret this by now.

I think it has more to do with the fact that English clubs offer them wages and pay fees for English talent that nobody else is willing to pay for.
You pay for a great player and get just an ok one. It's not worth it to teams outside of England to overpay for no reason.

Are there many English players that would be wanted by Spanish or Italian clubs? Ability on the ball is important in Spain and Italy, even for defenders. Watching the English national teams (senior and under 21) I see only Rooney having the necessary ability.

@Red
We at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen have an English player in our team
Admitted, it's only Regionalliga West (4th division), but still...

That's not really one of the "most well known" leagues though, is it?
For what it's worth, the information I was using was a wee bit out of date, but not significantly (not been updated for all of this summer's moves).
