Re: The US Politics Thread
I don't know why I got myself invested in this but I am glad it's over. It was some of the filthiest shit I've ever seen, the campaigns.
I am glad Trump won. I feel he's going to do well. The machine against him is still very powerful though, so a big task ahead.
Obviously he's still a politician and it's still the United States and he could drop a bomb on my head tomorrow and make me look like an idiot, but what I hope to see from him is to calm the world the fuck down and end the constant tension accumulated by these wars.
Also other things but I watched the election all night and didn't sleep and it was my birthday so I am tired as fuck to write anymore smh

Kamala was such a good pick that Republicans are winning the popular vote for the first time since 2004
— Ramy (@GenZdemagogue) November 6, 2024
How do they manage to lose this badly to Trump?
Couldn't even beat him in popular votes.

there's no way we see another female run for president in my lifetime
interesting times ahead, the only thing I'm positive about is that Ukraine are fucked, otherwise I imagine it'll be a lot of golfing before he croaks during his term, I'm not sure he will rock the boat too much

You never know, Tulsi Gabbard might become the next president one day. She's only 43 right now. I never supported neither Trump, nor Harris, but I've witnessed the extreme hysteria from Harris backers for a long time now, and it's mind-blowing what they've convinced themselves to be true about Trump.
I think he has many sides to him that are uncharming, and you could justifiably point out characteristics about him that make him a poor presidential candidate, but it really is baffling to me how easily people swallow up the endless conspiracy theories conjured up by the media. Even here, in Europe and Scandinavia.
I like to think that people will be more reflective over the next 4 years, and realize that the exceptional hysteria and claims insisting that he wants to become the next Hitler or hand the keys to the world to "his dictator hubbies" weren't actually based on anything worth taking seriously.
Sometimes, it feels like the development of the internet and social media has caused a lot of people to not even make the slightest effort to think for themselves and make up their own opinions about things anymore. How so many people become emotionally invested in the ideas and claims of other people, on things that are happening on the other side of the world, is actually quite concerning.

This is really embarrassing for Democrats, not being able to win a single swing state.

Meh. As I said, they are out of touch with regular people. And it seems they think abortion is a bigger issue than it actually is

I had a feeling towards the end that pollsters were herding as Nate Silver explained and trying to make the race seem closer than it actually was. Perhaps they were afraid of predicting a blowout and wanted to play it safe but they failed anyway.

It ultimately comes down to Biden not dropping off until the last possible moment. He was elected to get rid of Trump and Biden's ego got him back.

Re: The US Politics Thread
Extremist leftist views play well in their echo chambers (the mainstream media) but not with mainstream America.
The entire platform for Harris was based on fear of Trump. She presented no ideas, no solutions, nothing. It worked in 2020 because of the pandemic... but we're not in a pandemic environment anymore. You need ideas and answers.
Senate is Republican as well with Congress likely today.
So Trump has the presidency, Senate, Congress and the Supreme Court.
I personally like some checks and balances even though I'm conservative. It's dangerous to have one party hold all the keys. But the democrats can only blame themselves. They ran on a platform that, frankly, made most Americans throw up.
Re abortion - it's a State issue after Roe v Wade got thrown down. So there is no Federal policy on it. Women voters are thus more concerned about what their state legislature is doing re abortion than the President since the President has no say on the matter per the Supreme Court ruling. This simple fact escaped democrats but materialized in the voting.

Democrats are cooked as long as these sort of people are running their party.
Zero retrospection. just keep attacking and scolding minorities for not falling in line with your stupid policies.

Anyway still, one of the main reason for the huge difference is I think someone here said b4 Trump voters tend to purposely be silent about who they will vote for right for various reasons right?

I didn't follow 2020 closely and didn't believe the allegations much, just thought Trump was a sore loser, but logics imply otherwise now.
I am not saying it with certainty, but it is entirely possible.

Election fraud is nothing new in US politics. JFK won when the mafia stuffed ballot boxes as a favor to his father. He was basically tied with Nixon and got the little extra push he needed as a result.
Read here: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-nov-09-mn-51973-story.html
Back then, we lived in a far more civilized time where political opponents were actually in agreement with 80% of policy... only 20% differed between democrats and republicans. So Nixon and the GOP decided that it would be detrimental to the US for them to protest. Of course, Nixon took it (falsely) as a carte blanche to do shady things himself. Watergate was actually no worse than what JFK did... but I digress.
Anyhow, in 2020, you had an enormous amount of mail-in ballots because of the pandemic. Also, the oversight of ballot counting was minimal again due to COVID-19 restrictions. Given how close the race was (Biden literally won by getting Georgia with 11k more votes), it was easily conceivable, if not likely, that errors and corruption influenced the result. If the winning margin was in the 6 digits or mid to high 5 digits in Georgia and other states, then it would be a ridiculous thought.
So I get why Trump was so enraged. But it's extremely difficult to prove when you don't have... well proof since oversight wasn't at the same level. Jan 6 was not an insurrection, but a riot. He should have been charged with inciting a riot. But politically, insurrection sounds more damning. The definition of an insurrection is pretty clear in paragraph 3 of the 14th Amendment in the US Constitution.
My 2 cents.
