RIP Gerd Müller
What it says on the tin.
Gerd Müller died today, aged 75, in his nursing home.
Fucking legend.
Sad day for football.

Re: RIP Gerd Müller
You guys should read up on how well Bayern Munch took care of a very troubled Gerd Muller once he retired... a great credit to Bayern Munich.

Re: RIP Gerd Müller
Put his stats in context too. Back then, you had VERY heavy leather balls and you literally were allowed to break bones as a defender. Different game. Much harder to score.
I started playing with a leather ball btw. The Adidas Tango River Plate, Espana and Mundial. It is absolutely night and day from today's balls.

Re: RIP Gerd Müller
Rest in Peace. Absolute legend of the game, and will probably always be a little underrated because "all he did was score".

Due to, um, financial constraints at our primary school, I've experienced those leather balls. I am absolutely thankful modern science made things easier for us.
Anyway, I remember an old poster, Wigglesworth, used to mention that Bayern was taking care of Muller as his mental health started to deteriorate. If that be the case, Bayern taking care of him is reciprocity at its finest as Muller gave all his God given talent to help them achieve legendary things.
RIP Legend. A proper GOAT imo.

Re: RIP Gerd Müller
Utterly monolithic legend.
Gerd was easily amongst my favourite German players if let alone footballing legends as the man was so absurdly prolific and in the biggest moments at that, that his legacy is forever embossed in the footballing world.
Respect to Bayern for taking care of their legend during his dark period.
I did not expect this death as he seemed relatively healthy but one time or another all legends must pass.
Ruhe in Frieden, Bruder.

Re: RIP Gerd Müller
RIP to one of the GOAT.
For some reason I thought he passed away a few years ago, so I was surprised to read that he was alive and just recently passed. Was there a time he was reported critically ill in the last few years?
He was before my time and I’m sure that applies to everyone here bar Bill maybe. That being said I did watch a few of his games on footballia years ago.
I was always under the impression he was the greatest poacher ever, but I feel he was kind of underrated on the ball. Hardly an Inzaghi type. From what I saw he would drop deep and try to link up. Obviously his movement off the ball was elite, but he was definitely capable on the ball as well.
