Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Undone season 2 does again! Honestly one of the best shows of the past few years. Don't sleep on it.

i'm confused... just watched the first episode. Thought it was supposed to be more of a drama, but it seems to be more of a disaster/apocalypse series with some potential sci-fi/fantasy elements to it based on a few stuff they teased in that opening episode. Found some of the acting to be so overdramatic but then again some real life people reacted exactly that way too for a less severe virus in real life as we found out recently. And also in terms of realism i don't know how much i can buy into an adult Indian man spontaneously chaperoning a little white girl around the city like that and expecting an audience not to get creep vibes.
But anyway mostly i just feel like i was misled as to what this series would be about because some nerds on a podcast (Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan) oversold it so much when it started coming out.
The original work is a dystopian novel, didn’t know there was a tv show. Will check it out.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
does the novel have sci-fi/fantasy elements too?
just finished episode 3... at best it has Wachowski's Cloud Atlas vibes, but so far it's been too vague and all over the place for me to have any patience to see it out or see where it goes, if at all it goes anywhere.

Yes I would describe it as light sci-fi.

The Boys is definitely the best show at pulling off the art of shock value since peak Game of Thrones. It has a few weak points here and there, but nothing detrimental. Halfway through S2, will put up my review after S3.
Also shoutout to Homelander (Antony Starr) for carrying performance-wise.

The new, slightly re-tooled 3rd season of The Orville has been really solid. Some truly incredible moments in this show. It's no longer purely a Star Trek parody or even purely a comedy at this point. It's evolved into actual high-brow Sci Fi. It's legit in contention as the best Sci Fi show on TV.
I really expect it to make some noise at next year's Emmy's.

Fiancé and I binged The Sandman this weekend. She had listened to it on Audible so she had some frame of reference. I had none. Neither of us had read the graphic novels. It's quite good.
Haven't had this much fun watching a Netflix show since season 1 of the Witcher. Lots of excellent performances up and down this series as well. I think my favorite has to be from Kirby Howell-Baptiste. She was phenomenal.

Yeah it's been a real quality drought. I think this show puts them back in the right direction. It doesn't get them all the way back, but I think it reverses that run of just supremely mediocre stuff.

Netflix generally produces garbage. I mean if you're built around preaching to the audience how they should think and the usual stuff people will be fed up of it and already have. It is directly in sacrifice to the quality.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Netflix's problems is not going woke (they produced Chapelle ffs), it's that their business model is "If you enjoyed Great Show X you might not mind OK Show Y"
They literally bet on mediocrity. They have a hit every now and then but nothing to inspire. Even Ozark, which won a bunch of awards, was really a poor man's Breaking Bad

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
That bet had been paying off until recently. Turns out, too much mediocrity and not enough quality will eventually lead to a lost in subscribers.
Now that I've finished Ozark and Sandman, I frankly am seriously weighing pausing my Netflix subscription until something else I want to watch comes around.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Netflix quality has gone done but do you not think if you run through the shows as efficiently as you have been, then the lesser rated shows will expose that possible fallacy?
Would it seem like that if you consumed them at a slower pace?

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Possibly. Outside of the newer stuff, I do consume a lot of older content as well. I'm talking re-watches of stuff I've already seen that I just watch for nostalgia's sake. Even that's been depleted.

Not really. When you put out a hundred shows a year you need something more than just a good one every 3 months.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Outside of Foundation and Ted Lasso, I haven't given any of the Apple shows much of a look. I started See, but haven't had the urge to come back to it.
