The P stands for Panzerfaust, quite obviously.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
So i tried out Banshee could only last 3 episodes. Too over the top unnecessary machoness and violence, and cringeworthy acting. Feels like a parody of all the good rebel action detective shows that came out at that time like Justified.
Moved on to Top of the Lake, could only last 4 episodes. Too slow and depressing, every character feels like they're carrying generations of trauma on their shoulder.
But The Leftovers saved me today. Knocked 3 episodes off the board in a row just like that, which is so unlike me to binge. Gotta love Damon Lindelof, mans said fuck all the Lost finale haters and went full Wachowskis with this one. Intrigued to see how it all progresses and ends.

You're in for quite the ride with The Leftovers. That's a hell of a show.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Yeah it's not really one of those shows that throws around gratuitous sex honestly, very much unlike other HBO shows of that time.
As for the cult arc....yeah that one is polarizing. You either find it fascinating or grating. I was in the latter camp though I will watch Ann Dowd in just about anything. She was great in that 1st season.
Also....season 1's opening theme is superb. One of my favorites of any show I've watched. Introduced me to Max Richter's work.

Might start my Leftovers rewatch. Still think it's the best series ever made. Even loved every bit of the first season, even though Lindelof has admitted to a lot blame on that afaik.
Need to finish Lost, but can't seem to find the time. Three episodes into season 5 now.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
2 episodes into season 2, for a second there i thought the show was going to be an anthology still a bit uprooted after the last few episodes, hope things settle soon. The end of season 1 was okay i guess... no resolutions, basically everything is still up in the air... i've noticed though as the series has progressed there's a tendency for it to take a few illogical leaps and storyline progressions, and it sometimes feels like cop outs and deus ex machinas, but i guess i'll let it pass for now and reserve that opinion since the series isn't over yet. Just hope it remains in the realm of Wachowski-esque and doesn't boil over into FX's Legion series
Oh and season 2 gave me a new character to find annoying right off the bat in John Murphy (Kevin Carroll) after i found Patti (Ann Dowd) to be annoying in season 1.
I'm still binging though, so that's a good sign overall

It's a cringe show, far too pretentious and far too dumb for the level of pretentiousnessEl Gunner wrote:so far i find the nihilist cult cringe and annoying though

Idk much about Richter but On the Nature of Daylight is fantastic, and was a massive part of Arrival (my fav film of the 2010's)

Glad i'm not the only one who finds the show too pretentious and also super boring.
I literally fell asleep watching the first few episodes, so much meaningless grief

Lads get on Mare of Easttown (unless you are bothered by a female lead). Murder mystery miniseries starring Kate Winslet. Finished it and thought it was pretty good.

Yeah, it was pretty good but a few weeks later I have to say it has somewhat faded in memory
As Lucy said, Kate Winslet indeed is a powerhouse in it though

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
why would anyone be bothered by a female lead
have to say though these females in Leftovers are cringe af lmao.. Meg's arc from ultimate baby softie to hardcore supervillian antagonist with minimal screentime to justify such a change is incredible the series is falling apart for me heading into the S2 finale unfortunately, it's all over the place and like Hans and Pedram said it's pretentious more than anything else, and lacking in well thought out execution to compensate for that pretentiousness. I'll finish S3 though since i've committed to it at this point

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Nicole Kidman's performance in the Undoing might be the single worst instance of acting I have ever seen, I struggle to think of anything that comes close to being so ridiculously, appalingly bad.
I honestly have no fucking idea how something like this is even possible, how a director would let this happen, or even, one has to imagine, encourage it.
I'm watching this incredulously, mouth open in a half grimace, not sure whether to laugh or remain stoic, how something so bad could be made with such earnestness and with so much expense.
Baffflingly, astonishingly, goulishly terrible acting, what an absolute trainwreck of a character, it's like a train the size of a planet crashed.
Susanne Bier lmao, what a truly horrible piece of directing this is.
Amazing. Hard to believe this exists.

How depressing must Top of the Lake be that you found the leftovers a breeze of fresh air? The Leftovers is one of the bleakest things I've ever watched

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
it's more the sci-fi, suspense and mystery elements that kept/keeps me hooked on Leftovers. Even the grief is becoming a meme in Leftovers in S2. Top of the Lake is a social realism series.
