Re: 2020/21 La Liga
atleti and barca still have to play each other.....@futbol_bill, i differ with you a bit; a competitive league is good as long as there's entertainment. i'd rather dominate and entertain than a competitive snooze fest.
that league title was memorable mainly for matchday 37, a tamudo inspired espanyol taking points and exactly at the same time ruud scored to secure a point for us against zaragoza

End result was all 3 won so RMad got title. I was in a pub with 3 tvs. The games almost went in sequence, one corner would cheer then another corner, back and forth several times and for a while, both Barca and Mad were in tied games and Sevilla was clearly winning their game. That was quite a night. Could it be a repeat on May 23rd?
Was that the game Reyes came off the bench and scored in? Or have I got my years mixed up?
You know I can’t remember the scores let alone who scored them, it’s the up and down non stop emotions over a full 2 hours that I recall. Edit - I just looked it up. You are right Reyes got 2 and Diarra the other. I was wrong about Sevilla, they were 2 points back and would have won if the other 2 both lost. They ended up losing while the other two won.
2006/07 Hollywoodian-esque type of season, remember all the last games like they were played yesterday.
We played Mallorca on the last matchday, Barca had all but won vs Nastic Tarragona 5:1 while we were loosing 0:1 and Mallorca was giving us hell with counters, Cannavaro and Ramos saved us several times. On came Guti and Reyes, our top scorer Ruud got injured, same as Becks. Reyes pulled one back, Diarra scored next from a corner, which led to that famous Iker run screaming his lungs out VAAAMMMOOOOSSS!!!! tears in his eyes. After that Reyes made it 3:1 and all this in the last 15 minutes.
That season was crazy, loosing 1:3 at half time to Espanyol, ending the match 4:3 with a last minute goal by El Pipita Higuain.
Also the second last matchday was a total drama, Real vs Zaragoza and at the same time Barca vs Espanyol both ended 2:2 but the way it did still gives me goose bumps.

Tito, I really don’t know what you mean by a competitive snooze fest? When a number of teams are closely matched, the games are always interesting to watch as you never know for sure who is going to win. We haven’t really had competitive leagues in football. The best we come is some years in EPL with the top 5 or 6 close or in final rounds in CL, EL, WC or Euros. Perhaps you are referring to technical battles. I find these battles intriguing and an essential part of the game. I’m assuming you are American and that being the case perhaps that is why we differ in opinion. I’m generalizing, but an American friend of ours who is a casual football fan was visiting one year when WC was on. He kept saying they should change offside and other rules to allow for more goals, making it more like Basketball!

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
I remember that season like it was yesterday. Barca could've won the league due to an illegal goal by Messi. The players these lower league teams had back then were amazing. It didn't matter if a game was worthless for a team, they still fought tooth and nail to win them. It was amazing

a competitive snooze fest is when there's competition cos all the teams aint all that. real and barca aren't playing the kind of football we are accustomed to.....which is why there is "competition". i highly doubt that its because other la liga teams have stepped up

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
This year sure. You’re right, but I’m taking about best against best where teams are near equal. That year 2006-7, almost any team could beat another as Hala said.

Hazard is getting straight disrespected by la liga defenders. He’s Isco 2.0 right now

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
if atleti lose or draw against barca, i believe we've won it. barcelona dont strike me as consistent enough to hold on even for the final 3 games should they beat atleti, and i believe atleti still have to play la real. of the 3 we are the more difficult to beat, mainly due to the defense.....not saying we cannot be beat, cos all three teams, all 4 if you include sevilla, can drop points anytime. we just seem like the more difficult side to beat

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
oh and btw unlike the other games where atleti can just hope to defend and grab a point, they actually have to win. as a matter of fact all 4 teams in contention will have the mentality of trying to grab all remaining 12 points

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
Dest is playing strange again, I mean u would think Barca has the know how to given him more instructions to be more attacking? Or is it his own problem I have no idea. He has the pace, the dribbling skills to beat or at least make some runs behind the defender, but he rarely does and just stands there on the side line and passes it back, playing way to safe? Such a waste and means our right side offers nothing in attack again.
Alba has put in a million low crosses into the box and Dest really needs to learn from him in attacking, just make runs and get those balls in. Its amazing we havent scored from all those balls from Alba.
If this goes on my as well put on Dembele for Dest if he doesnt improve in the second half, we need to take risks in every game now for 3 points.

I'd like barca to win today, if they lose they might just give up on the league and throw it to atleti just for spice. A win, them and atleti can fight it out and hopefully both drop points

I think Atleti will take the title. The game against Barca has draw written all over it, and I can't see Real not dropping points given their schedule. It's gonna be very tight but I think Atleti will edge it.

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
Today’s loss by Sevilla essentially takes them out of race. I predict next weekend’s game Barca - Atleti will determine eventual liga winner.
An Atleti win leaves them 2 pts in front of Madrid and 5 in front of Barca with 3 games remaining. This means Atleti favoured to win liga.
However a Barca win or tie means Madrid either 1 point ahead or even with Atleti and either a tie with Barca or 3 points ahead. Given tie breaker against both teams goes to Madrid, they end up favourites to win liga two years in a row.

Whats this crap Im reading Messi held a barbecue for the team at his home and now the authorities investigation? Pretty sure Messi is professional enough to know better... unless he knows hes 'above the law' in some situations. Or just fake media story?

That'd be very stupid in the final run of the season with the title still on the line.
In others news, Mateu Lahoz appointed as ref for Barca-Atleti. Not surprised one bit, unbelievable in-your-face corruption. The worst ref on the planet appointed again for the most important game after el clasico last month.

Re: 2020/21 La Liga
0-0 at camp nou as expected.
We can take first on Sunday and with the tiebreaker in our favor we have to win remaining games and we will take the league.
