A man who is destined to be a top manager, an opinion backed by countless testaments from other top figures, appears to be taking a job I feel is too difficult to turn around just by managerial skill.

But what he can do even if he does not immediately succeed is give Arsenal an identity to which they have not had under Emery. I rate Unai more than many but he was always too reactive to other teams to have a core philosophy and if one knows of Arteta, his conviction and decisiveness is very sharp.


I feel Arsenal fans are in good hands here and definitely better than Ljunberg who's a clown.

Am i the only one that feels sad for Fraudiola? They took his boy in the middle of the season ffs, they sat together at every game basically. Now Pepito is going to be sad & lonely

I love Emery but never was truly excited for his appointment as he does not have one true ground philosophy and identity behind his coaching as we know he is a reactive personality and tactician whilst Arteta was known for his thoughts on the game even while a footballer.


100% behind him and hope he succeeds and I am in the position to given Arsenal are in no way in contention with Liverpool for a thing. Will be watching Arsenal game-by-game once again.

His first presser was unreal. He'll have this season to change the mentality and create a culture at the club. It's going to be difficult though since Arsenal is a loser club.

He's been touted as being a potential managerial prodigy behind the scenes. He's had some great footballing education too. I wonder if he'll be one of those poets as Mou likes to call them or if he'll be more pragmatic. If it's the former he's destined to fail with this Arsenal. If it's the latter and he's been guaranteed financial backing, I'm sure he'll succeed.

For all his eloquence and latent poetry about the game he is Basque in the end and shows it many a times so there is bound to be some pragmatism involved despite Basque football originally romantic.

Results should hardly be scrutinised this season given he is not one to seek immediate results from what I have seen in the way he speaks or believes.

If Arsenal are looking for that then I'd contact Serse Cosmi.

The thrust of his press conference was changing the culture at the club and repairing the connection between the team and fans, so I do think he's approaching these early months pragmatically. He was asked if Arsenal had lost their identity and he straight up said "Yes". No bullshit or dancing around the issue.

A few training sessions should reveal he hasn't got the personnel to play the football he aspires to. Building up from the back, for instance, is downright impossible with these centre backs. A high press is difficult with forwards who don't work hard off the ball. And so on.

My gut feeling is that he may play 3-4-3 until he's got the personnel for 4-3-3. 3-4-3 would give him that 3-2 structure in the build-up while allowing the wing-backs to play high. Baring in mind his only options for left back at the moment are Maitland-Niles (who's covering right back with Bellerin injured) and Saka (who's a left winger mostly).

Best win of the season for Arsenal by a long shot and already they really should have won v Chelsea and this was a mere formality. One should not be surprised Arteta saw the holes through this United team and got a clinical win and this will be an ongoing trend.
