Barca and Real spending loads on average players, not going to work with Jovic and De Jong. Just gonna be normal team players.

Re: UEFA Nations league
lmao fair enough but he seems a class above Busquets right now, considering what we have now I see him as a significant upgrade
Busquets-Rakitic-Arthur is arguably the worst midfield in football atm

Re: UEFA Nations league
Remember when offside was invented to prevent goal hanging?
Now we're using tech to punish players having a toe offside.
Can't help but feel something has been lost here.

Re: UEFA Nations league
Netherlands are NOT scrubs. They're far more talented than England NT. Take their top 5 players and compare them to England's top 5... and i take the Netherlands.
Neither of these NTs are elite in any case. But they're both good.

Van Djik, De Ligt, De Jong, Depay and Ven De Beek
or
Kane, Sterling, Ali... who else really. And I don't rate Ali at all tbh.

Was wondering if you were just being dramatic as usual but I am seeing Depay, some guy named Roon, another guy named Bergwjin (I assume he is a PSV lad), Babel, a guy literally named Dumfries and Blind started.
I mean, if there was a chance for England to make an international competition final since, shit, 1966(?), it was against this version of the Dutch team lol.

Re: UEFA Nations league
Both teams are about even, talent wise, and I say that as someone who's down on a lot of our players.
I'd take England's full backs (Walker, Chilwell, Alexander-Arnold) and forwards (Kane, Sterling, Sancho) over the Netherlands', but they have vastly superior centre backs and central midfielders.
Unfortunately, the Dutch having better defenders and midfielders is why we lost last night. De Jong ran the game and De Ligt/Van Dijk had fewer mistakes in them than Stones/Maguire. We tried to play out all game, but our lack of a playmaker in midfielder - besides Barkley, who had a good game - meant the options were never there, and that provoked them into taking more risks that didn't pay off.
Things got a bit better when Henderson came on, but our lack of a good controlling midfielder will haunt us even as good talent comes through else where. All our good midfield talent are attacking midfielders.

England were not lucky too, an English CL final exactly 1 week before of their closest chance to get a final.
And of course Liverpool / Tottenham players couldn't care about it

england have the same problem liverpool had over the past few years. they play the occasion and not the game thats why when the big games come around they go into there shell and give up the ball and just try not to lose.

Re: UEFA Nations league
I don't know if anyone watched Ukraine - Serbia last night, but despite Serbia getting smashed that was pure footballing pleasure.
A must watch, despite massive bottlejob by Serbian coach who thought he was Guardiola and put 7 attackers on and made it real easy for them, the kind of football Ukraine played was mouthwatering. If there are any football fans left on this forum who actually know anything aside from trolling, this will be a feast.
I don't knownif this was a one off since I haven't watched Ukraine before, but if this is a trend, Shevchenko is in for greater things as a manager.

Two players from Liverpool, three from Ajax, CL winners and semifinalists repectively, there is quality and most of all confidence in this team these days.
The development Wijnaldum took under Klopp, a proper midfield tank and leader now, benefits the NT team immensely.
Also they have a good coach, a real coach, good, not great, in terms of top club football, excellent in terms of NT level.
Barely any other NT can sport a proper coach like Koeman is.
