I have said for years that Perisic is a very underrated player. As for Mandzukic he has time and again delivered even if he may not be the best technically.

England's refusal/inability to play through the middle third of the pitch was their undoing.

The first half was great and they had the chances to take a two goal lead into half-time. Kane bottled the best of them somehow.

Croatia took control in the second half and we always looked like we would struggle. Our first problem was that by leaving two up top, we had no cover on our flanks and had to rely on the midfielders shuffling across. Alli had to protect Young but if he went across it exposed our lack of numbers in the centre, and if he didn't Vrsaljko had a free run at Young. Unsurprisingly, the goal came from this problem.

After that, our gameplan became very one dimensional. We needed someone to get a grip on play in the middle or carry the ball though the pitch. Without that player, all we could do is lump the ball down the channels or to the strikers and hope it stuck. It didn't.

I think that's why Southgate took Sterling off for Rashford. He wanted that ball to stay with the strikers for longer. But in failing to address the midfield, he left us open and stretched and Rashford couldn't make the difference. This was a time for Delph or Loftus-Cheek. Even now, our old habit of throwing on all the forwards and hoping something sticks still persists.

This was a step too far for us and tbh it would have been a tremendous overachievement to have made the final, even in this half of the bracket. There's a lot to work on still for this England team. For all the good work that's been done, playing with no midfield will only get you so far.

For the Inter fans, Perisic I only watch occasionally at Inter but he seems very important there, where Icardi gets all the credit, but its Perisic who is often the real threat and creator right?

This game went like every other England game I saw at this tournament.
You start great, with quick attacking with intent. You're clearly the better team and seem to be able to create at will. You score, too. Then you get worse and worse, and more and more unimaginative as the game goes on.
By 50-60 minutes you have lost control and are just hoofing the ball forward.

Strange. But that's what I meant when I said this England team won't be able to compete with Croatia. There's not been much fighting spirit in it. Also, too much diving and going down at every physical contact.

Rebic has been a revelation for Croatia as well in this tournament

To play devil's advocate, Sports actually was sort of correct in that Perisic, Rebic/Kramaric were better forwards than Lingaard and Sterling. Don't mind Sterling played really well before he got taken off.
