Better to make the list structured:
Best:
GKs:
Defenders
Midfielders:
Forwards
Referee
Worst:
GKs
Defenders
Midfielders
Forwards
Referee
Neuer kept us in the game yesterday so I nominate him. Mane did his best to support his team from all over places as a forward. That's what I expect from a quality player in a less talented team.

i was thinking of adding this as a twist but shouldn't we make a top 11 too? suggestions are welcomed so i can post it on the first page.Babun wrote:Better to make the list structured:

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
I personally just like the top 10 (maybe just add honourable mentions at the end) as what Babs suggested would be too detailed and it kinda loses the fun of a debate. You know, x player should be there over y player. You could save the detailed stuff till after the WC imo.

WORST: Plastic Ball
No 1: Caballero: good lord he is terrible, spends his season on the bench but here he is starting and stinking up the place.
No 2: Kawashima: it's amazing how bad some of the GKs are playing. mistakes on both games, Japan are lucky to have 4 points.
No 3 Messi: one of the most disappointing player this world cup. choked in both games;12 shots (most in WC) 0 goal. not acceptable.
No 4: Boateng - took over from Davinson Sanchez as worst Cb this tourney, he is doing, absolutely, and positively nothing. looks fat and out of shape
No 5 - Lewandowski: whelp, letting Yerri Mina snatch your lunchbox is just unacceptable. i am surprised he did not blamed the losses on his teammates.
No 6: Mueller - Looks rubbish nowodays. probably plays because he has naked pictures of Low
No 7 - Enzo Perez: we could put the whole argie Xi in this list, they have been mediocre. Enzo though typical Valencia player
No 8 - Khedira: So bad he was dropped in the second game
No 9: Pique - looks like Spain weakest link, getting carried by his team.
No 10: Piszczek - absolutely horrible in both losses, what a drop off from the player he used to be

well it's only for his unique moment of brilliance that he made it. It might be unfair for James who was also excellent vs Colombia or even Quintana.Hapless_Hans wrote:Mr Nick09 wrote:i think im gonna leave him out, he basically played one game. the other guys played just as good, and the high Kroos delivered yesterday was just too high

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
Khedira is in the plastic ball ranking when he doesn't even start ? Ufff, some list that must be.
And I actually would have had Kroos in the plastic ball nominees if not for that late free-kick. Let's not forget he was directly responsible for Sweden's opening goal.

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
I had forgotten Kroos mistake on the first goal for some reason, but fair is fair this is a power ranking based on performances.
James IN at n10. Kroos out.
No one is here to make an argument for Quintero but I thought he was amazing as well

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
Gundogan needs to be in the plastic list imo. If Kroos was abysmal before the goal (he wasn't) then what is there to say about Gundo? Worst German player on the field (except for Boateng of course).

Yeah Quintero was great too. Good against Poland and even better against Japan. James' Poland game > his though.

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
Musa ahead of Isco for me. Spain had 1 shot on target against Iran all game. It was not an inspiring performance by any means. If we're taking only round 2 into consideration and not round 1 performances, then Musa definitely deserves to be there.

This is a power ranking, aggregate performances matter. I could have had a round 2 only list but ain't got time
Gundogan being shit for just one game or however long he plays, could not quite make the list

If we're talking about aggregate performances than Quintero ahead of James for sure. Was excellent in both games for Colombia. Scored a cheeky free-kick goal in the opener although it should've been saved. I personally think he's been Colombia's best player this tournament thus far. He has revived himself again.

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
Yeah Gündogan was shit too. Both Gündogan and Kroos were shit. Alongside Müller, Draxler, who were terrible. Reus wasn't good either. Neither was Werner. Boateng was sluggish and poor, Rüdiger was rather shaky. Kimmich can't defend, sadly, and wasn't good.
Who's left?
Hector. Hector was mediocre.
Neuer was good.
It's absolutely bizarre that in this Germany NT, only Neuer who has not played all season and who should never have been taken to the World Cup, has been good.

I also agree with this. Quintero has been owning our midfield and has been our best this tournament.

Neuer not withstanding most of that isn't surprising at all.
Kroos is the really only one from that group entering the tournament into form, as much as everyone on this forum and Low wants to think otherwise form going into the tournament matters and pretty much all the key players from Germany aside from Kroos had none going in.

Re: WC best/worst player - power ranking
I think Kroos is lacking the support system around him to make him successful. He is a specialist and thus he needs players next to him that will help on the defensive side. In the last world cup I think Germany mainly dominated teams because they had Kroos-Schweini-Khedira playing together. Extremely balanced and coherent midfield.
Kroos is not 5% the athlete Piggy was, he suffers a lot in transition defense. Actually he is mediocre at it. Herrera was going at him non stop in that Mexico game and Kroos could not cope. In Madrid he has Casemiro and Modric lifting him.
How does Low not see that his midfield is broken? He disappoints me

Naturally, that means that he's likely not suffering from the mental and physical fatigue that comes with training and playing cup and league matches all season.
