I'm not sure they are "doomed." Obviously the next manager will not be able to replicate what Zidane did, but no one has done that.

I think it depends on who we hire tbh. If we hire a Conte or Allegri type trophies will be more necessary, as I think the expectation will be to extend this successful period.

If we hire a Lopetegui type or even Poch I think we can assume the club views this more as a project to rebuild.

Deez... Not sure guys like Ramos, Kroos, Modric, CR, etc. are really interested in rebuilds. They will skewer the manager if we don't win.... and so will the media.

Zidane had an aura (coupled with results) where nobody really dared to criticize him.

Well those same players weren't playing for Zidane in the first half of the season either, and that bad play resulted in losing LL in October.

Players respond to new ideas. And if not, they can leave. No one player is above the club, and none of those players are irreplaceable.

You know and I know Deez.... that Flo will never choose his manager over his superstar players. Just not how he operates (players bring in the revenue). So any manager needs to have buy in from his galactico group or it's going to be a very short stint...

Really why Zidane himself left, it's impossible to repeat the same success when Ronaldo is declining and it's evident we won't win the 4th. He knows whoevers next is going to have a rocky season when Ronaldo is gone

When do you guys expect an announcement to be made?

It being a WC year is both good and bad. Good- more managers available. Bad- won't be available until deep into preseason.

Marco Lopes who is usually really good with information says it won't be pochettino.

Again, this is a good chance to get Lopetegui, and to get an influx of spanish football in this team. Our football has to evolve over the dependence on star attackers. This past generation has been incredible but an over reliance on individual players is never sustainable.

We have to evolve in other ways

This would be the best time to evolve beyond the over reliance on individual “stars,” since our stars are mostly passed it. Our midfield plays well as a unit but can improve, attack could potentially be an entirely blank canvas depending on what happens over the summer.

But can we move in such a direction with Perez? We are at a crossroads right now and i am pessimistic that Perez will put his golden boy Bale up for sale or push Ronaldo out, which are two moves which i would deem key in order to really push towards different directions. And who other than Man United can or may want to even get them two?

Also, i have noticed that the Spanish media has neglected to mention Lopetegui's name, they are now foolishly hyping Klopp but not a word about the Spain NT coach.

We've seen Perez move after young Spanish players recently with a desire to fill us up with Spanish names so it'd make sense to connect the dots and see Lopetegui as intriguing but i just don't have faith Perez will move for some of the ecosystems we wish for here.

How do you guys rate Quique Sanchez Flores? He is a Madridista who has coached our youth ranks. He has been great with Espanyol playing an expansive pressing style, but has some question marks over dealing with big personalities.

I'd throw him into the top tier of choices along with Poch, and Lopetegui.

I rate him as a good La Liga manager, he knows what he is doing mostly but I have serious doubts as to his ability to navigate through the inner politics of the dressing room and the board room. I also think Perez would not respect him enough to listen to his requests as he would definitely not have a huge say in transfers (why should he?). But he looks like a Spanish version of Dr. House and, once again, he is a good La Liga manager.

Reason I think Lopetegui is not being mentioned is due to the Spanish media not wanting to destabilize the NT with needless rumours bombarding the camp. Leave them to let them focus on the WC. Basically, bias, don't blame them either. Only idiots would try to distract their own NT with foolish gossip.

According to Cope, Pochettino is out of the running for Madrid coaching job. Interesting news because even Marcos Lopez who usually doesnt bullshit, said we were out last night.

Could be, on the topic of Wenger though- he falls into the category of manager I wouldn't mind taking over. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I am curious how he would do.

It was clear at Arsenal the players needed more instruction, and more tactical rigidity. At RM, I don't think that is as much the case.

Again I put him behind the likes of Lopetegui, Quique, and Poch. But he does fall into the "I wouldn't mind" group with Allegri, and Conte.

Anyone else care to rank their options?

Quique's teams have pressed very well, organized, and played attractive football. I think he has a lot of potential as a coach, but he has butted heads with big personalities- so that is my one hold-back.

He's smart, well spoken, former player who knows our club well, especially the youth set-up given he coached Madrid at the youth level, has done well when he has managed top teams. Personally, I see him as an alternative to Lopetegui- different styles of play, but have a lot of the same benefits going for them, and he is available now so we can start going to work on potential players before the World Cup.
