Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 4
Brighton vs Stoke on a Monday night?
Verona vs Bologna?
I remember when MNF meant something
Instead of having Lazio and Roma +Milan and Napoli on the same day, separate them. No wonder Serie A is 1/10th the worth of PL

Stupid decision. He had them in upper table half not long ago. Now he's getting sacked for losing to City and Chelsea? WTF do these owners expect?

I'm shocked they did it, not that he didn't deserve it.
2 wins in 21 games is unacceptable.

Yeah, this one is not knee-jerk. Two wins in 21 games, and playing the worst football in the league. Pulis got them mid-table once but at this rate he was taking t them back towards relegation. People were joking he should be sacked and then re-hired to get them out of relegation.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 4
Also some stuff that gets often ignored tbh....
Managers who play unapologetically dire football in the name of results have absolutely no goodwill to play with when results go south for a period of time.
There'll be pundits queuing up to tell WBA fans that they should have been delighted with the holy grail of surviving every season but if they were sick of watching that s*** then I don't blame them. As a fan, football's pointless if all it is is a grind.
It's a sport after all, it defeats the very object of the name.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 4
Shearer on MotD was basically saying that WBA fans should be careful what they wish for because Pulis is great at "surviving". All the while I'm thinking: why should they be happy with just surviving?
If you were a WBA fan, you wouldn't go every week to see crap football doing the bare minimum to stay up every season. Their fans have hated him for a while now.

Surviving in the PL is important for a lower table club.
There's 3 clubs every season who won't.

Adebayor, who is now on the books of Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, believes injury-prone Rosicky epitomises Arsenal from that era, with the unfortunate Czech having seen his career ravaged by regular spells on the treatment table.
"I was the strongest player on the team, despite the fact that I weighed 73kg,” Adebayor told French publication So Foot .
“Chelsea had [Michael] Essien and [Michael] Ballack in midfield. We had Rosicky.
“If you said as much as ‘how are you’ to him, he would then be injured for two-and-a-half months."

Hate that attitude tbh, the idea that it's ok to just make up the numbers and jump on the PL gravy train needs to die.
With attitude like this Leicester never would have happened.

Doesn't matter, just the whole idea of just accepting your place like a good little boy is *bleep* moronic.
Even if a league title for a lesser known team seems impossible, qualifying for a European place is not as "big" teams constantly *bleep* up and have poor seasons.
We'd be in a lot better place as a league if more teams approached it like how Watford/Leicester do and not how West Ham or West Brom do.
This tells me a lot about how big club fans think though, a lot of people say they want competition but when push comes to shove you all desperately want the status quo to remain.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 4
The point is that West Brom is a lower table club whose season goal no. 1 is: avoid relegation.
That's just a fact, as it is for every lower table club.
Everything else is a bonus. And to be honest they have done very well uner Pulis so far, they were among the top 10 for long spells, even 8th or so, no?
And now, that they slide down again after a few bad results towards their normal place, he gets fired?
He's become a victim of his own good work, of him getting West Brom to overperform.

Fine speech
I don't disagree, i'm just disputing the fact that Leicester was an outlier variable, don't expect it to happen too often, even if teams did approach games the way you say they should

For argument's sake, if WBA's goal was to avoid relegation, 2 wins in 21 would still get you sacked. Pulis is no victim of his own success. He's just been performing badly.

I didn't disagree with that tbf, it's just the entire football world would be a much better place if we all actually tried.
I get the feeling most teams have no interest in actually competing.

As someone who supports a team who has played in the lower divisions i disagree entirely.
Our two Championship seasons were more enjoyable than most PL seasons tbh, i know that maybe hard to believe for people who have never experienced it but it's genuinely true.
The PL isn't really all it's cracked up to be for a fan.

Most are fine at just where they are, raking in cash $$
For all my United bashing, at least i recognize ambition and they want to win things, even spending obscene amounts every year
As opposed to a club that meets minimum requirements every season, barely achieving CL, minimal signings every summer etc

It's on going, apparently they are looking at past financial deals etc etc.
Seems like a standard process, unless of course you are called Mike Ashley and takeover a football club without doing any due diligence lmao.
