You're absolutely right. The hustle he showed defies the expectations that have set in when aging European stars come here to finish out their careers. He's very clearly done his homework, is taking this league seriously and I respect that.

MLS is littered with FK specialists so that's not what makes this goal unique.

It's been a very long time since DC United have had a player of Rooney's caliber scoring goals like that for them. Jaime Moreno is probably the last player that I can think of and he retired several years ago, which hastened DC's decline. That's what makes this goal special. Rooney has had a seismic impact on this team and its fans. Great story.
