Howard wilkinson won it with Leeds. But of course no English manager has a chance of winning it if they don't get a job at one of the auger daddy clubs in the first place.
You get the job if you're good enough. Not for simply being English.
No they don't. European clubs have more home grown managers because they have a better selection to choose from. Otherwise if there's no suitable candidate top clubs won't hesitate to go foreign.
Imagine a top club in England looking at a spread of Allerdyce, Bruce, Pardew, Dyche, Howe, Pulis, Moyes and Hughes. Home grown isn't going to come into the equation - the fact that the majority of them are proven, average managers will.

Mikhi looks to have hurt his ankle. Hope it's nothing serious.

Tottenham can play for another 200 minutes and won't score. They lack creativity.

I've seen pulis take a bunch of scrubs and destroy the big clubs and big name managers plenty of times. Who's to say pulis wouldn't do well with a world class squad.Jay29 wrote:Unique wrote:but if they don't get a chance how will you know if there good enough. Pochettino's love for average midfielders is amazing. Harry winks might be the most average CM I have seen since Bentaleb

Two names: David Moyes and Roy Hodgson. Rated for their supposed over-achievement with smaller clubs, but completely flopped in a big club environment.

Unique has a point though, the FA/PL clubs haven't done enough to stem successful managers, maybe that trickled downed to players as well

Honestly though Moyes didn't over-achieve that much really.
He did with what he had at Everton to the point what he should have done.
Consistently below the top 6 was exactly what the talent in that squad should be doing, over-achieved to finish 4th one year granted but so has Pardew and George Burley.

Just our of curiosity is there any young British managers from the Championship and below who we have to keep tabs on tho ? Surely there has to be a top up and coming coach there. Or are Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe the best they can boast of as of now ?

Pulis does deserve a higher tier team IMO. Constantly taking bottom tier teams and never getting relegated or often getting a solid midtable finish. Not an elite team, but something like an Everton or West Ham?

Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 7
this game went like all the other games we got unlucky in this season except we managed to not concede in the last 10 mins after dominating..we should be second ffs.
the only team that are genuinely playing better than us on the pitch this season is Chelsea, nobody else is clearly better than us. That's not to say we've been good, top clubs are just pretty average this season. We have not been outplayed once by anyone in the league except Chelsea over 90 minutes.
we will still finish top 4 IMO. title obviously out of reach with how unlucky and wasteful we've been early on this season.

Also taking out Son and Eriksen (who were performing) and leaving Alli and Wanyama

Gary Monk (Leeds) and Gary Rowett (Birmingham) are promising. Leeds is practically an impossible job given their nutcase owner and frequent player turnover but Monk is doing extremely well, and Rowett did some great things at Burton Albion before rebuilding Birmingham to be a decent team again.
