Was Rooney ever really an issue?
United seems to be performing worse than when he was playing. It's beginning to seem like he was more of an obvious target to blame rather than look at the real issue. Most of us discussed how Fellaini was a problem and a bigger one than Rooney and that is still a factor with United's poor midfield.
Another issue is Pogba being non-existent
However does anyone else think that Ibra is actually the biggest problem with United's attack? He isn't mobile and the team isn't built around him unlike how it was at PSG.
It feels like United need to drop these under performing players.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
Well, yeah. Rooney is an issue. He isn't as good as he used to be and he certainly would never be a midfielder at this sort of level. But he is just one of the issues Utd have at the moment.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
Their whole tactical set up is the main issue.
Rooney still needs to go imo, but their bigger problem is how their defense and defensive midfield sets up.

The real issue is that a hot-and-cold Pogba and a past-it Zlatan are not enough to make this United side great again.

He was clearly an issue lol, he performed like crap for like two years.
But obviously not the only problem they have.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
Got to agree with the OP actually eventhough Whooni was obviously the biggest issue. Thank god at least that is somewhat resolved. Zlatan oh well. I know I will get slated for saying this, but the guy is basically rooney with better first touch and heading, like a better version of the same product. Both of them play the same way, dropping deep into midfield even when you have your wingers playing mainly as defensive wingers or wing backs and getting into other players's positions. I think Ibra will work well in a 10. He has good creativity and touch.
Rooney should be out of the club where as Ibra, well Ibra needs to be for now stripped off the GOD status. He needs to be at least liable to be dropped (in big games in which he consistently underperforms) and subbed off.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
the biggest problem at man u right now is the players have lost all confidence. also the man u squad is full of players that are suited to play attacking football and not that park the bus crap that mourinho is trying to drill into them.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
WTF is this thread? All these stupid kneejerk threads. Why didn't this thread come up all these while? Man utd looses and all of a sudden rooney was never the problem? Even after all the calls for rooney to be dropped.
Clubs looses without 'X' player, 'X' player is indispensable, player misses penalty/one on one, 'X' player is a fraud, club wins they're suddenly favorites, club looses, they're ordinary and nothing special
Seems this guy is in competition of who does the most threads on gl tbh

Ibra is the real culprit. Rooney was just a victim.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
We solved one issue in dropping Rooney by creating another in starting Ibrahimovic.

United's all-time top scorer.
One of the best players of the last 10 years and kind of underrated due to weaker performances in the last seasons. Top footballer no doubt about that.

Re: Was Rooney ever really an issue?
One of the best players of the last ten years just doesn't have that sort of esteem as one of the best players of his generation and for United's newly crowned all time goal scorer, you would really ponder if he deserves that title.
Mind you, he never wasted his talent like Cassano did as he has done very well for himself, both trophy wise and financially. But for someone of his talent, I always felt he had the potential to accomplish a lot more.
