Re: Mafia 3
no reviews before release
usually a sign a developer/publisher isn't confident in the game
think it will deliver IMO
might be a little buggy though

Re: Mafia 3
If they wasn't confident it wouldn't be all over the place also the previews have been extremely positive everytime it came out.
It used to be the case but publishers do it all the time now, I'm really not concerned. There's been shite tonnes of footage released for people to know what they are getting.
From the footage I have seen there's two things which might be an issue though to stop it being great, bad AI and repetitive mission structure.
But neither will likely take away from overall enjoyment imo, if there wasn't loads of footage online i'd be concerned but this isn't one of these cases as they have shown loads of gameplay compared to most games.

Re: Mafia 3
said all along the only thing that worries me is that the story missions which are apparently really well done are locked behind doing the side content which are apparently dull and repetitive, smh. Hate when games do that. How long were past Mafia games in length? hoping to smash this in a week max.

Re: Mafia 3
Mafia 2 was less than 10 hours lol, I expect this is longer due to open world being more involved.
Not really worried about the story tbh, it's what this series excells at. I am worried that the side quests get repetitive though.

Re: Mafia 3
It doesn't necessarily mean bad no, all depends on whether the gameplay loop is fun.
That said i don't know if the side quests in the open world are repetitive they just come off as that in the gameplay previews.
My criticism of GTA 5 is it's mission structure was crap, still not a bad game though and even if it's the case here i'll still enjoy it.

Re: Mafia 3
Having played about 2 hours so far i feel i know what it's good at
Story, acting and writing is fantastic so far, i especially like the direction they are going with storytelling in terms of telling it from documentary POV ala True Detective.
Gunplay is very satisfying, there's a definite weighty punch to it which actually feels like there's a bullet going through someones head or whatever and shotguns are fun AF and i expect it to get better once i unlock better weapons as i'm only using stuff i pick up off the ground so far.
Soundtrack is *bleep* amazing, probably the best period exclusive soundtrack since Vice City maybe.
Haven't really played enough to explore the open world to give an opinion on it yet or the activities within it as i haven't unlocked anything yet but i suppose that's the true test of the game.
But so far, so good and it's excelling at the things i expected to in abundance.

Re: Mafia 3
Bought physical cause if I don't like it I'll sell it on. Didn't arrive today. FML.
Let me know how you like it more tonight and if you have to do a lot of side missions to progress the story, from what I read I think I'll mostly be interested in spamming the story missions. Hope you don't have to jump through hoops to progress stuff.

Re: Mafia 3
Done a few of them, they do feel like side missions tbh but at the same time they are advancing the story and the game considers them "story missions ".
They feel like they are setting up the real plot heavy missions like how GTA's set up missions set up heists. Like i said before though the storytelling and cutscenes really are excellent, so it makes me want to get to the next mission.
With that said i have only done 3 of the "sidequests" so i'm not really annoyed by them yet, would obviously like more variety if it's going to continue though.
Also helps that the gunplay is fantastic, absolutely love blowing people away with the shotgun. Dat feel when you blow them in the kneecaps and they crawl/bleed to death.

Re: Mafia 3
Hard to say because i kept myself in two places the whole time when there's 12 districts. ( I really haven't done much at all in the grand scheme of things)
But it seems plenty big enough, and the paperback map the came in the box seems big

Heard the game can't run on more than 30fps on PC. Probably why it got 6/10 on steam lol

Re: Mafia 3
Yeah i heard that
I'm having zero performance issues though, some pop in for grass and that but no more than any other open world game.
I absolutely love it so far, some of the smaller mission structure is a bit repetitive although there is more variation as you progress but none of it matters.
Because the gunplay is so *bleep* good, never played an open world game with such good mechanics and feedback.

Re: Mafia 3
i'm hesitating about renting a PS4 at the store just to play Mafia III... The trailers were interesting and the atmosphere seems great.
So...... the gameplay/gunplay is good, really ? I'm not worried about the mechanics; more with the game controls.
Do you still interact with square, jump with L1 and cover with *bleeping* X ?
