Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
For me we should be a positive 4-2-3-1 at home on Wednesday.
I'd like to see guys like Tex, Ojo and Kent putting pressure on some first teamers with a performance here. Although that probably won't get Klopp to pick them anyway since he didn't use Allen or Smith against Arsenal or United despite their recent performances.
Randall - Ilori - Caulker - Smith
Brannagan/Stewart - Allen

I wanna see Danny Ward start. If he plays well, bench Migs and just start the youngster and see what he's made of.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
Mig just signed a new five-year deal, quite obviously he'll be the number one.
Hopefully we'll play the kids and the fringes, the rest should get rest.
Nice to see Scotladd popping in

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
I wouldn't be surprised if Mig is sold, if not this summer, the summer of 2017.
I'm pretty sure FSG gave him a contract because they don't want to lose him for pennies or for free since he only had 1 year left. They want to protect their investment. Somebody is gonna be stupid enough to pay us back what we paid for Mignolet.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
To be fair to Klopp, he's seen Weidenfeller and Bogdan (who was a back-up for a CHAMPIONSHIP side Well done Rodgers, signing him due to the fact that he had a clean sheet against Liverpool no doubt), Mignolet is always going to look like a beast compared to those 2.
Never rated Weidenfeller
Not too mention the whole defence is a mess. You know you're doing bad defensively when Lovren is arguably one of your best.

Nah, that's video game thinking. And no club who would pay him Liverpool-level wages is going to be interested in him, either. He's here to stay at least for three more years.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
I would also like to see Ward start I completely forgot that he had been recalled. Maybe if Allen bosses yet another game he'll actually get a chance to prove himself as a starter.
I still can't believe they gave Mignolet another 5 years with all the evidence pointing to him being just not a very good keeper.
Lovren has been our best, even over the highly rated Sakho, under Klopp. I don't know why it's worth taking a swipe at him in this comment. Why wouldn't you just be happy that he has stepped up his game and played very well? In fact the Lovren/Sakho partnership has done really well together (unfortunately health has been a bigger factor in that regard). He works hard and fits in well under Klopp.
One area of the defence to really be concerned about is leftback. Moreno still gets a ton of reps and to be honest a lot of attacks seem to start down his side, and he can't win a header (or even mark a header tbh) to save his life.
Lovren-Matip-Sakho moving forward as our main three with some kind of injection of youth/experience (maybe keeping Kolo, Ilori, etc.) could be very good as long as health holds up.

I was hoping your man klopp would have put a bit of orgernisation into the defence by now.Red Alert wrote:To be fair to Klopp, he's seen Weidenfeller and Bogdan (who was a back-up for a CHAMPIONSHIP side Well done Rodgers, signing him due to the fact that he had a clean sheet against Liverpool no doubt), Mignolet is always going to look like a beast compared to those 2.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
Jürgen Klopp has again placed his faith in a young Liverpool team in the FA Cup, naming a youthful line-up for this evening's third-round replay against Exeter City at Anfield.
The boss makes 10 changes to the side that faced Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet the only man to retain his place.
That means many of the youngsters who acquitted themselves well at St James Park earlier this month feature again, while Brad Smith, Tiago Ilori and Kevin Stewart are handed their first Anfield starts with the senior team.
Mignolet is joined by fellow first-team squad members Joe Allen, Christian Benteke, Jordon Ibe and Jose Enrique, who captains the side, in starting the game.
Liverpool: Mignolet, Randall, Ilori, Enrique, Smith, Brannagan, Allen, Stewart, Ibe, Teixeira, Benteke.
Subs: Bogdan, Flanagan, Kent, Sinclair, Ojo, Maguire, Chirivella.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
I've been asking that for weeks. Why doesn't Allen start despite being our (current) best midfielder? Benteke played that nicely too.

Can only repeat myself. If I think about that Utd game, the first half especially until you let up.
I haven't got the numbers but I don't think you let them have any shots/attempts whatever. You intercepted almost all their forward passes. You won almost all second balls.
For spells you kept them in their half.
I'm not sure how you can possibly be organized better defensively?
Your organization was brilliant.
It's just that you didn't score from it and then the momentum got lost after 55 minutes, which is what happens if you don't capitalize on pressure and momentum and fail to score.
And how is Klopp going to stop Fellaini from winning an aerial duel?

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
Yep, Benteke was great. He was dropping deep and linking up well, running around, and made some really nice plays in general. Unlucky not to score.
Allen and Smith were great again and should be vying for starting XI spots. Ojo and Ibe were also fantastic. Ibe especially ran Exeter ragged. Nice to see.
The important thing was the win, but 3 - 0 was pretty nice. Kevin Stewart looks a proper player as well, and Flanno looked good!

I think Smith and Teixeira (the Portuguese one) should start against Norwich.

Re: Liverpool vs. Exeter City
Who would Tex start over? Maybe Milner/Lallana? I would rather have Ojo start over either of them though.
Henderson - Can (since we know Allen won't get a sniff despite his performances)
Ojo - Firmino - Ibe and then have Benteke leading the line.
That's what I'd go with anyway (and Smith at LB over Moreno). Though if he wants to stick with just having Firmino up top and a 3 man midfield replace Ben with Lucas.
