Back from The Hateful Eight.
Fantastic film. Tarantino is a genius. Great acting and only Tarantino can make a 3 hour long film which doesn't let you get bored even for a second.
8.5/10

Yea he said so himself too but i thought he might be double bluffing. That final scene was so good man.
I have only seen 3 of Tarantino's film but I would say this was one of his best.

Only one if his I didn't like more was Death Proof. Which should say a whole lot. This one just didn't feel Tarantino enough.

Inglorious is on my top 10 of all time and favourite Tarantino. It's not a war film in any traditional sense at all. Start with that one.

Inglorious is nothing like a war film tbh, it is massively overrated though.

Hell nah
- Spoiler:
- In the final scene, the way that other character(forgot his name) scrunched it up and threw it away indicated how worthless it was.

Speaking of race in film. Idris Elba's speech had so many solid points.

I know, but it also could have resembled that it was worthless since they were both dying

hmm...That could put another spin to it. Never thought of that.
- Spoiler:
- But SLJ character came across as proper shady, con man like, so I think he just used that to blag his way through. That's why I can't think of any other alternative other than it being a fake note from Lincoln

Re: The Movie House - Part 6
- Spoiler:
Yea it's definitely more plausible and most likely true that letter was fake. SLJ's character was quite shady as you said. How he set up that old guy and made that story up of his son(don't think it was true at all imo) just to kill him and how he stayed safe due to that very same letter. Probably was a trick.

- Now that you mentioned it, that scene when he was telling the story about that old man's son. I was dying Pushed the old man's buttons just so he can kill him and not get crucified for it. Played him like a fiddle lmao.

Re: The Movie House - Part 6
- Spoiler:
- If the letter was fake it would make the whole point about the letter disarming whites completely useless dialogue. Not only that, but the far stronger point which is that in that age blacks were still viewed as lower class due to skin and should be trusted only with caution would also be useless.
You could make the point that the letter is supposed to be a bit ironic. White men looked up to Lincoln so much that a letter from Lincoln to a black man would immediately absolve him of his lower class and make him trustworthy (hell it basically moved Ruth to tears)--allowing SLJ to get into the stagecoach. Lincoln was a man who, because of the emancipation proclamation, was seen as the a man who treated whites and blacks with equal respect, and who ended slavery. It's ironic then that the white man, who looks up to someone who freed the slaves and treated them like equals, would need a letter to trust a black man like SLJ. You would think that they would emulate their idol, but that's not the way things worked back then. SLJ points this out when he tells Ruth that it "worked on him".
Even those who loved and idolized Lincoln still had a lot of racism and racial bias, and it's possible Tarantino may have been trying to make the point.
Besides, I can't believe that a letter from Lincoln that ends with "Ol' Mary Todd is calling so I guess it's time for bed," is real and Mannix does point out at the end that that's a "nice touch", indicating it was indeed fake.

Great post.
- Spoiler:
- I guess I wanted to believe badly about that letter being legit
but yea can't disagree with any of that. Very nice analogy regarding Ruth and the letter. I actually felt bad for Ruth the most. He was the only one who had the slightest respect for SLJ and probably the only one who didn't call him the N word offensively. He was legit heartbroken when he found out about that letter too haha.
Film's ending was fantastic man. Couldn't have been a better way to end it.
Heard he is only going to make 2 more films after this. Maybe making TH8 with SLJ as the main character was his way of paying homage to him.
obviously he can/will be in his next 2 films as well but you ever know

2 of them didn't count.

- only 8 had a legit history and were involved in the story. Carriage driver was just an outsider for example. Despite dying he was not important.
