He plays in midfield in attack. In defence he drifts to the wing and does very little

Even if it is - so what? A formation on paper never looks the same on the pitch, during the game. If you never try, you will never find out.

I personally would not consider it an extremely offensive line up.

Agree but at least hes a decent striker. 22 goals from a striker in a season is really decent.

Probably the reason why we are seeing such signning is due to the fact that we already have superstars in every position and they do play almost every game through out the season. No one would want to sit on bench whole season and playing 10-20 mins atmost that too not every match. So we are signing players that are good enough to play backup but at same time have no issues over playing time ala Turan.
