Re: Fear The Walking Dead || AMC
They did say that FTWD is far slower than TWD.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead || AMC
That probably just meant that they won't skip the beginning, like in TWD, but rather go through it day by day. Which is fine, good, you can obviously still write good stuff for that approach. This second episode was slower in the sense that they hadn't written much good stuff for it.

Kind of what my thought process is.
Already invested so much time into this show. I feel like this is almost a necessity because I think eventually down the line the two groups will merge and the shows will cross over.
The show is a bit slow so far but everyone is just finding out that there's something wrong with this virus.

Great production can't really make up for the horrible writing. So much inconsistency with the characters it's just painful to watch.
I was really looking forward to this series but I'm done

Re: Fear The Walking Dead || AMC
Watched the second episode and I really liked it.
Forgot we had an AMC channel on tv. Missed out on eps1 might just download it and get on it once and for all.
It feels exactly the same as TWD.
Watched a behind-the-scenes footage afterwards and the producers basically said they are going for the tension that this situation (zombie apocalypse) creates in this dysfuctional family and also how this situation causes civilisation to slowly falter and break down. Sooooo if you guys are looking for some more action and a different twist to this show than TWD then it probably isn't for you.

*bleep* hell. What a great pilot.
Wasn't really dying to watch this, TWD overkill etc.
But what a *bleep* great pilot.
Slow moving. Great characters. Great actors. Taking it seriously.
Quality TV

I'm more leaning with BC here. But still enjoy the show. I think the enjoyment comes from my anticipation of expecting greater things to come.

The characters have been fine, imo, although both of the "kids" have irritation-potential, depends which way they'll go with them. But so far I have nothing bad to say about the characters.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead || AMC
I'm persuaded. IMO far superior than the first season of TWD.
Not as popcorny, the characters are not as archetypal (or pseudi-archetypal').
Instead, normal people and how they react to the Zombie Apocalypse.
I like that. I like that much better than more Sherrifs with Cowboy hats and Magnum colts running around in the woods forever and ever ever with a hillbilly with a crossbow, looking stern, collectively behaving crazy stupid.
I want REAL reactions and behaviour. "What the *bleep* is going on".
It's slow (I LOVE slow, 'good' slow, I want horror, or drama, to be slow), it's atmospheric, it's much more close to home.
It's got much more a creepily apocalyptic feel to it. Especially since I love LA as a setting. Just love it.
It's like FTWD creates the LA *bleep* up doomy atmosphere TrueDetective S02 wanted to create but failed due to pretentiousness.
Have to say that I entered it with the lowest possible expectations (my first thought was "really? REALLY? a TWD spin off god no". Then I was out of mindless entertainment so I thought why the heck not let's take a look).
This is always good to be positively surprised. But I have to say I'm sold. AMC
It helps that I really think the main actor guy is fantastic, the woman is from my favourite ever show Treme, and I've got a slight guilty crush on the daughter because of The 100.
I agree though the kids have annoyance potential at first glance, they've been fine though.

Watched the 3rd episode, probably my favorite so far. Liked the ending, too, the way it changed things a little.

Did people quit this show or just not bothered to write about it?
The 4th episode was a bit weird and I'm not sure did I like the ending, did it make sense or not. One of those episodes where the next episode will define whether this was a good or bad one.

I'm still watching it but I'm withholding judgement until the season ends.
I'm hoping for a good explanation for what the military is doing. I don't want to see something trite that's there just to give the characters something to react to.

pls calma
that was definitely a great episode, especially the whole perspective from the soldiers point of view
I'm enjoying this show now, still some things I wish they would skip tbh but so far I like it better than TWD
mostly because the characters feel real and act how you would expect in these situations
do the shows have different writers btw?

Re: Fear The Walking Dead || AMC
They must have different writers, this one is much more intense with more layers to it, imo. I've been a bit on the fence until now, but the 5th episode pushed me over to the good side, the plot and the characters coming to their own now. I don't care what the finale is, this was exactly what I wanted to see from this show. Superb

Then better stop reading this thread.
Art, good to see you've seen the light.
Have to say though, the 5th episode was the most confusing for me. But it's nice how things start to completely unravel.
I love it that they understood the way to make a 'Walking Dead' spinoff was not to increase, but to completely scale back on the walkers lol.
Well so far lol, looks like we'll have to deal with a few walkers next episode hehe.

One important difference is that this is not a comic book adaptation.
TWD is after the comic books, FTWD is original material, that's reflected in the tone. Less comic-book characters, more realistic vibe.
Both have their merits, but I'm enjoying the difference, as if we're quite honest th TWD characters are a bit ridiculous in the long run, even if it's great entertainment.
Another difference: In the first seasons of TWD, Frank Darabont was involved, who's a bit of a moron artistically.
IMO TWD got better from season 3 on, when he quit.
