Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Yeah pretty much, it's also going to depend of the coach, the formation we play at the time, etc, a couple of variables. If he becomes truly exceptional we will take him back no matter what of course.
But he has a lot of maturing to do, playing as a midfielder implies that you put the attacking and defensive effort, and that you play with confidence, since it's the most sensible part of the team. You need balls and courage, atm he is short of both.
It's one of the reasons he was playing so high for Racing. He has the pedigree to play a lot deeper in the midfield, as ACM, but if the mental aspect doesnt follow, you become a liability; hence he was played behind the striker so he could have the freedom to express his game. I expect growth, for his sake i hope he makes it.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
lol, it was never arbitrary, and to be frank i was a bit afraid we would mess it up. the buy back th way we used to do it, is very short time for a player to blossom. So this new deal is unexpected, we can hope the best for him ofc, but truth is, his situation is not any easier.
He now falls prey to a very rude competition from the outside in. Sarabia, Parejo, Alex just to name a few, are players that are going to be competing to eventual spots in the squad. Not to mention potential wonderkids coming from within, like Enzo, Omar, Benavente, Jose Rodriguez, wonderkids from other teams in spain and abroad.
That's what i meant by, it's going to be hard for him to come back.

Nick, have you watched him with the U20? He is back to his old self and is leading that team. He is as good on that team as Thiago was on the U21.The entire team has improved dramatically since he started playing. He lifts the play of the entire team .Last night they played a 4-4-2 formation with Canales and Pacheco in the centre. They played back as a dual pivot, played defense but still organized and led the offence. Canales ability to see the entire field and then make excellent passes shows just what he can become. He made passes close upfront as well as from way back (Alonso like)
I still believe he will be a super star. In the long run none of Sarabia, Alex nor Parejo nor Granero will be any where close to him. Will he become that player before his loan runs out? Not sure, but I don't like his chances at Madrid regardless of how well he is playing as long as Mou is still here. I think Canales did something to piss him off and therefore I don't think he comes back as long as Mou is running things.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
it's always easier to do it at u20 level, it's not like he has competition in that squad or much pressure. he has talent, that much is obvious, it's not gone. Let's see how he fares in the elite, in valencia. after watching them against liverpool, he has an oppening there to pierce through, we will see if he can take advantage of it

Tell me why at end of season in the nothing games, why Mou didn't play Canales. He was treated the same way as Leon was. Something had to have transpired that pissed Mou off. Mou tends to hold grudges.

Most likely, we will never know for sure, but i have also heard that mourinho likes him. Let's hope for him that he does good and turns into a spanish NT, he needs to be mature enough by the time we call him back

I find it quite amazing how Mou can do no wrong in Madrid One's mind!!! I expect Canales to take full advantage of this Valencia shot. I'm also glad that he has another Madrid castoff, Mata staying to help him develop. I expect him to be ready in 2 years to come back, but he will be competing with Ozil, Sahin, Khedira and Granero. I'm not sure if Alonso will be ready to pack it in by then. I would think he has another 4 years. Also where is Coentrao by then?
As far as Mou liking Canales, I would question when he said that. He did speak well of him when he first came saying when Ozil was brought in that he felt it was his job to play Ozil but still give enough action to Canales to develop him. This despite Van Der Vaart and Kaka also being with team. Yes Ozil did exceed expectations, but in my mind, Mou didn't do what he said he would. Bottom line is they stagnated his development by bring him in from Racing. He would have been much better off to have been coming in this year (and he would have been a legitimate back-up to Ozil instead of Kaka) with another year of liga experience.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Every person is an asshole in some persons minds, almost everyone who has worked for Mou has liked him, so I have no doubt that he has a great personality.
He just has his own style of protecting his players, which is also the style Coach Rex Ryan from the Jets use, and his players love him too, even though people from the outside may not like it, i am sure they have a great personality.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Seems like Canales is finally turning on the form. Just after he left...
Anyway, I hope he will nail down a starting spot at Valencia, which I think he can do, and improve.

I expected him to be automatic starter in the AM role with Mata gone, apparently its not working out as he hasnt been playing too much.

What are you saying!!! He has played in every game, some as starter and some as sub. He hasn't yet sttod out but it takes time to get adjusted to new club. He arrived after pre season and still gets regular playing time. Give him time. He was the best player with the U20 team (in Columbia) and the with U21, 2 games in initial qualifying for next years euro.
