Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Incredible how big egos are at these big clubs and the big players. Its pretty clear that Ramos now has all of a sudden been forced to leave becos he and Flo cant agree on the financial side of things - a contract big and long enough to satisfy Ramos. I guess the financial troubles are really showing up now. But similar thing happened with Alves and Barca. Its pretty sad, both were performing at such high levels, and despite aging, clearly showed they can continue for at least a year or more.
Im really not liking how Real and Barca treat some of their loyal employees in these players who has given them so much over the years.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Ramos was willing to accept a 10% reduction in salary. He wanted 2 more years and then move into coaching @ RMadrid. In other words he wanted to retire at Madrid. Sure he and his brother overplayed their point, but at end of day, it was Perez insisting how senior citizens are treated at Madrid. No different than Pepe, Hierro, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Casillas.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Yea I just watched the so called farewell ceremony, I didnt feel any genuine emotion from Flo at all, none lol. It felt like he wanted Ramos gone asap...
The fact that Zidane made that public letter also a sign of how Flo, probably quite hard to work with.

Don’t get me wrong, I would have preferred Ramos would have stayed and retired, but from a squad point of view, the timing is right as it also was with the other senior citizens I mentioned earlier. And I also believe Zidane wasn’t up to the challenge of transitioning this team.
Bottom line, although I don’t agree with everything with Perez, he still is the best president we have ever had.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
perez wasnt president when carlos left....raul wanted to leave, because he wanted game time, wanted to start. playing on the bench in his last year was the first time that had happened to him in club football since like 94. which is why he went to schalke (united was interested, but he would have been playing off the bench). and when u have young hungry benzema higuain at madrid aint no way ure starting raul.
after all see spain with villa and torres. casillas was similar to raul, club had invested in a goalie they wanted to sell, iker couldnt be undisputed at that point, i cant remember pepe's situation. point is, if a player wants to retire here there are concessions they have to make....being comfortable with being on the bench and taking paycuts . i understand the players' point too, ure close to retirement, u need that last huge pay, and some still feel like they got it, they are athletes afterall. i get both sides, but people have to move on.
i'd rather see my greats leave while they are on top, i like ramos leaving now, than seeing him have a season where he's slow , stinking up the joint, or rotting on the bench.....

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
I started this thread 5 years ago, that’s how long Ramos has been threatening to leave lol. This is how contract negotiations work in football at some point, regardless of club status, there is no Kumbaya meeting where everyone dances and contracts are handed left and right.
Players want to make more money regardless of age and level and clubs want to pay players less money. There is a point where those two lines stop intersecting and people go different directions

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Thats fair enough I guess... especially considering the economic situation nowadays, I fair to give more points to Flo in this scenario
So where is Ramos gonna go? I mean at his level hes still a top CB since he seems to be so strong and fit still? Although I dont follow him closely obviously, its just the drop from Real and Spain and now actually leaving have been so sudden. Surely many top clubs would love to have him? No rumours yet which is strange.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
I think he will go to another big club. I feel he is good for 2 more years. He is like Raul, i feel, good enough to have 1 or 2 more years elsewhere, but timing is right to leave. I would have liked him to stay, as I didn’t see a replacement for him, at club and with seleccion, but in both cases there are options without him. There is an opportunity after Euros he may get a few more caps with seleccion, but not in WC. He didn’t go to the Euros because he has hardly played this year and Laporte’s sudden citizenship. @Barca, other clubs expected him to stay as per Monchi at Sevilla.
His opportunity at a lower placed club will be Sevilla, if he wants it.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
I think he still has at least 2-3 years at the top level to give, and I think it wouldn't have killed Madrid to give him a two-year contract instead of one, especially when none of our remaining defenders are even good enough to lace his shoes. It's definitely our loss, and a smart management would've known how to handle his situation better.
I wish him all the best though. I never thought anybody would fill Casillas' shoes as a leader, but Ramos stepped in and passed the test with flying colors.
My favorite moment of his (which also happens to be my favorite moment of the last decade) is when he buried that godly header to the back of Atlético's net at 92:48 in the CL final.
Good luck, legend, and thanks for everything!

Whenever a star player signs or is expected to sign for PSG my transfer excitement level goes back to zero. As if that player will cease to exist. A stain on their upper deck card that's what it is.

pretty much. It's such a dead club and league to play for. You only see the stars in CL and that's like 4-6 matches a season.
Even Thiago silva at 40 is more relevant in the PL than he ever was in his prime at PSG

The guy is 35 and has done it all, what else do you expect from him?
PSG is a much better "cashing out" option than Qatar, China, or MLS.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Really not getting the disgust at this move.
Ramos's legacy is set in stone. Multiple La Ligas and 4 Champions League titles.
He needn't prove anything else.
Yes I would have preferred to see him in Serie A or a lower Liga club but PSG is a UCL contender, Paris is a fantastic world-class city, Ligue 1 is growing by the year and his retirement check will set him for life.
The last part is by far the most important.
Not an exciting move by any means but hey at least it wasn't the piece of shit Chinese league or the semi-retirement league thats MLS.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
nothing wrong with the move. dont understand why someone would go to mls or a lower league club when an offer from somewhere like psg comes up. a club that's fighting for titles, playing in the premier European cup, and can pay you the money you want when u're at the tail end of your career. i'd rather that than seeing hierro playing for bolton

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
More a judgement on PSG than on Ramos
I understand the money/competition compromise but their project is not interesting, their manlet approach to sport makes them ridiculous. Current era PSG has a negative effect on the legacy of players, aesthetically speaking. Although for Ramos the effect would be minimal because of his Madrid credentials, his name is now associated to this unlikeable bunch.
I am still bitter they manage to sign Buffon

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
judgement on psg for what? their approach to sport is no different from the traditional top clubs when they were spending left right and center...the whole legacy thing is fickle in sports imo. as years go by, media people and fans change the narrative to suit them/their arguments. footballers should never put stock in that when making their decisions.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
I am disappointed whenever PSG signs a good player tbh. I know Ramos legacy will not suffer... but guys like Mbappé, Neymar, Verratti could have a greater career if they played elsewhere
PSG approach the sport like a top european club which they have never been. The qatari project has no credibility until other french clubs can compete. To me they are impostors at this level. Their only purpose is to ruin Ligue 1 and waste years of talented players.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
lol so juve madrid barca utd bayern the milan clubs, are the only ones that deserve top players and psg doesnt? just because those teams got a headstart? the qatari project is very credible; there was nothing proven wrong that they did; people acquire clubs all the time.....lets not act like every club in italy spain or germany can compete. the only people whose tears i can understand are fans of much smaller clubs....if ure a fan of europe's premier clubs, u had ure fun, let psg have theirs' and if u want the players psg has, spend money to get them

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Good move for both I think, its still so strange to see him leave Real, but he would be happy with the money and will step right in at a big club challenging for the CL each year. PSG is so rich and they finally brought in someone good enough if he keeps his level after T.Silva left I guess? Every time u see the CBs in the teamsheet u always get the feeling they need improvement there lol...

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
Yes i consider they don't deserve as much. Well i told the reasons why: artificial top club and waste of talent. I dislike when legends are associated to PSG while you seem to not be bothered by that, fair enough i get your logic
Man City have similar financial situation (artificial top club) but i respect them more since they face adversity each season, their titles are worth something, players don't lose value going there.

Re: Ramos demands to leave Madrid
QSG owners just operate like its fifa UT, just want the names regardless of anything else, they would sign Zidane tomorrow if he came out of retirement
I'm not mad at it, would have been nice to see him in the PL but PSG is a great option for these aging stars, basically moving to Qatar while still having a decent shot at CL finals.
