Manuel Neuer was voted European and World Sportsman of the Year by both the Association of European Sports Journalists (UEPS) and International Sports Journalists (AIPS).



In the vote for the European Best Athlet 2014 he came first before tennis stars Rodger Federer (2nd) and Novak Djokovic (3rd), while in the World Best Athlet 2014 vote he won against Roger Federer (2nd) and Cristiano Ronaldo (3rd).

Manu Neuer is only the third footballer to get this prize since 1983 when AIPS Europe (UEPS) began picking the Europe's Sportsman of the Year. The other two footballers who won were Michel Platini in 1984 and Lothar Matthäus in 1990.
