Bayern Munich announced that Manuel Neuer has signed a five-year contract following his arrival from Schalke last week.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper passed his medical on Wednesday, and a statement on the club's official website reads:

"After passing a medical, Neuer has signed a five-year contract which expires on June 30, 2016."

Neuer expressed his delight after having put pen to paper to become the Bavarian's first-choice shot-stopper.

"I cannot wait to start training. I know Munich well and I feel very comfortable here," he told FCB.tv.

He went on to give one of his reasons for joining Bayern, saying: "It's because I am the Germany goalkeeper and Bayern are the best team in Germany."

Quite a good deal for Bayern, 18+ optionals is pretty low for a GK of his quality, especially for a young one. Great deal of business imo.

But didn't he have only a year left on his contract with Schalke? That'd explain the relatively low transfer fee.

Best goalkeeper in the world this season. This deal can only do good for Bayern. and they don't need Boateng or any other defenders. WHO NEEDS DEFENCE WHEN YOU HAVE DUKE NEUKEM?! As long as it's not Bonera that is in front of him...

18 million € + the optional 7 million is pretty neat, considering he might go down as one of the best in footballs history

i remember an article that was saying the neuer transfer might become the highest transfer fee for a goalkeeper so i m delighted with this price Smile

IIRC, the Buffon transfer some years ago was for a much higher price. But for this season it very well will be the highest price for a goalkeeper. It's for sure the highest price for a keeper in the last year of his contract, though.
