Mandazukic should have started last week.
That's pure hindsight
Mandzukic has been looking absolutely shit against Serie A fodder. He's also been fluffing headers left, right and centre.
He was also injured so there's that. He raced to fitness to make the bench.

Mourinhoesque performance from Allegri tonight. Just when you need the goal to finish off the game you decide to be cowardly.

You are acting like Madrid is Benevento. After Matuidi's goal we continued pressing forward for a few minutes and then Madrid woke up and pushed us back.

Genuinely not sure whether Mourinho ever was up 3:0 in a CL knockout with any team in his career.

Mourinho goes away to Sevilla and plays for a 0-0. That's a Mourinho-esque performance right there.

Yep. The home game was the biggest and the only real problem. Allegri would've killed that Sevilla side on Old Trafford.

Re: Massimiliano Allegri appreciation thread
fantastic video, i love how honest he is with his ideas. this is the same school Zidane subscribe to, organize the defense and let your attackers free to play as they want and score goals
For those who dont understand Italian or dont read french, he is essentially saying that the debate about tactics in football is getting too complicated, because tactics alone are not enough to win games. he takes the example of basketball and says at the end, when there are 5 seconds left, you give the ball to the best player. So he argues that tactics dont need to be too complicated, and youth football must focus on developing individual technique because that's why messi, CR, Higuain cost in the hundreds of millions. So his philosophy is to keep things simple, organize the defensive side of the game and to leave freedom to his attackers to go make the difference.
On résume l'opposition Allegri/Sarri à défensif/offensif, mais c'est d'abord le choc de 2 écoles :
— Matthieu Martinelli (@matmartinelli) April 29, 2018
- le jeu de position structuré, schématisé, mémorisé de Sarri
- l'idée qu'un coach doit organiser la phase def et laisser libres ses offensifs car ce sont eux qui gagnent les matchs pic.twitter.com/un7kHXDtt4

About Ronaldo, Messi and Higuain: he actually said they wpuldn't be worth those hundreds of millions if the scheme is what wins you the match
Anyway, its' a shit philosophy: you're not paid to coach only the defense and if your squad talent is inferior then you're *bleep*. See Juve in Serie A vs UCL

There's definitely a tendency among football fans and pundits to over-analyze tactics and formations.

Re: Massimiliano Allegri appreciation thread
Until Guardiola and the barca doctrine, no one was talking about philosophy. They are the ones who introduced this notion that they have a better style than everyone hence they are the best in the world. Luckily they had Messi in his prime so that helped. And now it's a train of thought that has expanded to the point where even certain teams are convinced that playing better (whatever that is) = they are deserving to win. Case in point, Bayern players (Muller) saying he doesnt understand how they lost because they were better... well no, you lost because you were not better actually, that's why you lost.
Pragmatism vs beauty of the game, it's the heart of Mou vs Pep, Madrid vs Barca debate of late.

I agree, because most football players didn't even finish school and can barely sit through a lecture

so you are correlating finishing school with one's ability to sit through a lecture and learn? that's asinine

Let's not forget you were subscribing to that thought not so long ago as well until Zippo made you look organized at the back and won you multiple CL's

You are mistaking I don't subscribe to the Guardiola ideology about football. I like certain aspects of it. I believe in organized attacking football so a coach like Zidane or Allegri i will never like. What I hate is the dictature of thinking.
Zidane is just like Allegri to me, not surprised they share the same Italian heritage. This Madrid team is the most Italian team in Europe right now.

What explains Allegri's long absence ? I would figure every top team with an opening would want him, but he keeps getting looked past.Robespierre wrote:Kaladin wrote:Massimiliano Allegri is PSG's first pick (@SkySports)

Doubt he'd want to work with Nedved and Paratici again unless Agnelli fires both of them. I mean they ditched him for Sarri ffs.

Re: Massimiliano Allegri appreciation thread
Well it seems that he doesn't have international status and at same time he's in worst situation in Italy .. No Italian teams need of this profile or they can't afford him (except for Inter)
He's not adapted to Arsenal, club so far from his pragmatic philosophy

Re: Massimiliano Allegri appreciation thread
You'd think he'd have more international hype given that he brought Conte's spine to the CL final and then rebuilt Juve and got his own spine to the CL final literally two years later. He also won a bunch of leagues in a row too.
It's not even a Conte thing where you think star players might not like him. Allegri gets along great with star players from what I've read. He's like Ancelotti in that he tries to be friends with them. He's one of those coaches who are great for big clubs.

Re: Massimiliano Allegri appreciation thread
The only player that didn't get along with Allegri was Bonucci at the end. With Dybala there were some issues but it was more about tactical fitting.
He was liked by the whole team, got along great with Pogba, Ronaldo, Mandzukic, Khedira, Chiellini, Cuadrado, and pretty much every other big player we had.
He was great with the media too until the 5th season when he was clearly tired.
Would have been the best coach for PSG, good thing it will be Poch instead.
