Catalan speakers can learn it quickly.
What about Basques? Emery grew up like 150 yards away from the French border but not able to speak French properly at all
Most Basques don't even speak their native language, let alone French. Multilingualism is notoriously low in Mediterranean countries, especially among older generations.

Hapless_Hans wrote:but yeah, Catalan is basically French-tinged Spanish
Basque is a completely different language, isn't it, not even Indo-European
Written intelligibility between the two languages is like 90%, but oral intelligibility is around 10%. French is truly an island of its own when it comes to phonology.

Carried by Messi, Xavi and Iniesta to CL glory
His time and his generation of managers are done. Please make way for more modern coaches Iike Zidane and Klopp to rule at the top.

His domestic success at Bayern is irrelevant to me, you put some random in charge and they can win titles there. No disrespect to Hans. Bayern are just so far ahead of most of the league.
Pretty clear he's not some generational manager when he isn't being carried by the greatest footballer in history and a supporting cast of all time greats, either. He has an unlimited chequebook at City and just comes off like a rich kid on fifa ultimate team.
Knew he was a fraud when Ole did the treble over him.

I mean Niko Kovac who Hans himself says is a scrub won them the league.

No no you're right, even fans of German football will agree with you. Well, to make it more clear: it wouldn't just take any random to win at Bayern, you would also need to spend big on transfers, and Pep did spend big, and yet he complained about wanting to spend more.
Pep is just throwing his billions around. And as long as he was outspending everyone at Bayern, he was winning the league. But it takes a proper coach like Heynckes or Flick to actually make something of Bayern on the international level.

I mean this absolute clown leaves all of Bernardo, David Silva, Mahrez and Foden on the bench against Lyon in favour of a 5 man defense with 2 defensive midfielders ahead
didn't he actually bench De Bruyne in the last 1st leg against Spurs?

Hans we said it before the game the same shit like always played out.
Although it has to be said the moment he corrected it and played his usual players in the 55th minute in a 4-3-3 is when Lyon started creating chances. I get the logic behind having an extra man behind the ball rather than between the lines based on how the match played out.
The problem is that City have never performed well with a back 5. It's his typical away game bullshit tactics. Instead of reverting back to normal in the second leg he did so at the 55th minute. Nothing has changed in the last few years.

Why be reactive against LYon? 55 minutes and a goal down?
Why? Why is he so dumb, and why does he keep doing it?
He has a superior strategic way of playing implemented in his team that has him winning almost every game, and then he changes it because for some reason the idea of an "away" CL knock out game makes him lose his head and hsit his pants for some strange reason
Honestly the only time ever I've seen him be bold and positive in a CL away game was in Turin. And we were fantastic, one of the best halfs we ever played. 2-2 a good away result too even if we lost the 2nd half. WHy doesn't he take that game as example? Or every other game his teams dominate and win?

Re: Pep Fraudiola Denunciation Thread
Who would have never imaged these continuous European failure at City a day ?
Monaco , Liverpool (when they were very inferior to City ) , Tottenham , Olympique Lyon
Not just a problem of quarter finals, but always knocked out from teams ( definitely) more inferior than him
And duly we'll overrate the City under Guardiola in Autumn, it'll happen also this year after CL group results, ready to say " it's the year of Manchester City " , forgetting that the real Champions League has played in knock out-stage. Where they become poor suddenly.

How much have city spent on players under this dude? I bet if we take into account the salaries of his signings plus transfer fees, it's close to at least half a billion

Re: Pep Fraudiola Denunciation Thread
Guardiola is so very lucky. Despite a poor season he is under no pressure at City and from his post-match speech I believe he is going to extend his contract too. Does anyone know a coach so protected by his employees?
Imagine outspending every team in EPL and CL and still not having anything to show for it. He is going to outspend every team again (already signed Torres and Aké) and while I tip City to win EPL again next season, I don't see them being successful in CL.

Look at how stressed he's getting over the Liverpool front three. People like to call him arrogant but he's proving he's a coward more than anything else.
The only reason I can come to is that Juventus side played a 4-4-2 and they were missing their star players at the time, so he thought it was fine going with his usual 4-3-3 set up. At this point, it's so mind-boggling because his tinkering rarely works for him in the CL.

Re: Pep Fraudiola Denunciation Thread
Loool, Pep still the same, big flaws and the biggest is again the defense. Plays so high line but isnt good at defense at all. Lyon attackers had it easy in the end, just need pace and any kind of high ball through ball second balls and they are through, Pep is still pretty clueless in that area lol...
De Bruyne and Sterling are great but when it matters still have trouble fishing often, but thats nothing compared with the back. No matter how good Man C are, they will always have problems winning due to the huge problem defensively.
Lyon 3-1, lol, and yet another year of failure in the CL. Dont know whats ahead for Pep in terms of if he can ever fix his weakness. He needs to completely learn something new - defending. Loool.

Why do you think he think he gets protected? The same was at Bayern? Is it because they still trust him, maybe don't completely blame him for the results? I don't see why he would get protected this much
He won't win the CL period as long as he doesn't sort out his mental block and as Hans and Cas have highlighted his coward approach.

Re: Pep Fraudiola Denunciation Thread
Criticism of Pep here does not make sense. Its like posters wait for him to fail but that isn't important.
Pep's problem is that he is a perfectionist. And in football your decisions are counted by the minutes. It works in Hollywood maybe where you are afforded time in ratio to money hence why Kubrick stamped his genius time after time but Pep seems to needlessly tinker when he does not need to. Why? He has this penchant to continually evolve upon a system to fulfil whatever ideal is stuck in his head and what I do admire him for is that is goes beyond winning for him.
But overthinking on what works best to the cost of your team, fans and ultimately yourself really is where he is falling short. He has been doing such things since his 2nd year in Barça to now and tonight was an example of how some questionable changes were to key to having Lyon capitalise on what was a very ineffective City. He will for sure end up winning the CL again in my eyes if not more but his time in City for now is done unless he can earn the faith of the players once again and fill out areas that seem to be lacking for City.

Re: Pep Fraudiola Denunciation Thread
They do wait for him to fail. Other coaches play by one rule and Pep plays with another. His Barcelona rustled so many people that they are after his every performance. It's been like that since he left and nothing has changed.
Over the last few years, I've been talking about how to win the CL you need players who can do the most with the least because it's a game of fine margins. City does the least with the most. They will never win the CL with their current group of players. Sterling's missed sitter and the VAR goal last year is more than enough proof. The only big game CL forward they had was Sane, but he's left. All they have left are Sterling, Mahrez, and Jesus. Even Aguero is suspect in the big European nights. These guys need 100 chances to score in the CL. It's a mentality thing.
Sterling was actually making a case for being a big game player in the last two seasons, but his sitter at the end, showed why he's a very good player, but not an elite one. He just isn't a killer. Pep puts his teams at a disadvantage with his tinkering which leads to a chaotic game and City doesn't have the finishers to put the game to bed and they end up conceding instead.
Rinse and repeat. It's been the same story since the match against Monaco. Nothing will change. The only way I can see them win the CL if they sign a Messi/Ronaldo/Neymar. Hell, you can even make the case for Mbappe and Haaland from the younger generation. The guys who when they get that once chance score.

Being a "perfectionist" doesn't have you lose to a side that couldn't beat Lille home and away.
Pep did shit for the umpteenth time in Europe and was punished for it. Again.
