Improving our Striking Force
I think if we can get one or both of Benzema and Ibra to team up with Costa, that would be great.
Both players should be available on the market in the summer.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
Can't see why either would volunteer to come to Chelsea to sit on the bench when both could easily be starters elsewhere.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
Because there's nothing in the world like being managed by Mou.Ibra said it himself, and Benzema is certainly missing working under a proper coach after spending his second season working under a scrub like Ancelotti.
Benz - Costa - Ibra
The improved version of Kalou - Drogba - Anelka FFS.Benzema's best form came when he played on the left for Lyon anyway and Ibra would drop behind the two playing the TQ role in a way, teaming up Benz and Costa and supporting them.Huntsman, what a visionary.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
thx Vibe
It would be nice if Ibra can lead our striking force for the next couple of seasons.
I would consider him an upgrade to Costa despite the fact that he is relatively old but he would bring in immediate results.

He's serious.
Vibe is a Mou and Inter fan.
Besides, it doesnt matter, it's still true.
Ibra at 33 is better than Costa will ever be.
Chances of buying either one (Benz or Ibra) are real.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
Chelsea's strikers:
Games : Goals : Assists
Costa 27 (3) : 20 : 4
Remy 7 (16) : 6 : 0
Drogba 9 (24) : 6 : 2
Both Remy and Drogba have scored 2 goals from 6 and 5 EPL starts.
So if we look at goals per game scored by starting CF:
.47 goals per game
That's a solid return, for all three CF's.

^ May be one of the silver linings to Costa's injury (provided it's still keeping him sidelined when League action resumes, that is)

Re: Improving our Striking Force
What I do not understand is our constant link to Icardi of inter. He is touted as the Drogba replacement, but Drogba should surely be replaced by Bamford. As he is third choice, that would be the smartest option.
Spending a penny on a new CF is idiotic.

Club hasn't even loaned him to a Premier League club yet so I'd hardly be surprised if they don't throw him right into our squad starting next season.

He will have to have a Sturridge at Bolton type impact for him to even be considered.

What is this thread?
Not good enough obviously as evident from the games that we failed to win against mid and low table teams in the pl. We are sitting juuust a few points front of 3 or 4 rivals. They will all improve and buy selectively come the summer.
The purpose of this thread is to learn from what was and prepare for what is coming (next campaign and beyond). To study the market movements of our competitors and unravel their future projects. Stop looking at the shallow stuff and fluff and dont worry about the money spent on the best strikers. Its not about how much you invest / pay but about the return on investment.
To upgrade our front line from being the 1-dim line it is to one that can adapt to changing game circumstances and different playing styles all in the service of "football is never an 11 vs 11 game and the team with more traffic / players will be the team that will win at the end of the day"
This thread, my friend, is full of potential. Just open your eyes and look around and you will find all the answers to your questions.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
You can face palm all you want but that wont change a thing.
Why did Barca buy Suarez when they already had Messi and Neymar?
Why did Madrid opt for Bale and James Rodriguez when they already had Ronaldo and Di Maria?
Does Barca play with three fwds? MSN?
Is Chelsea better than Barca and Madrid?
Who is out of the CL, Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG, or Chelsea?
Who is better, Ibra, or Drogba / Remy / Costa?
Who is better, Benzema, or Drogba / Remy / Costa?
Is a combi of Drogba / Remy / Costa better than one of Ibra / Benzema?
Get your facts straight, okay? Don't think of me as being rude if I refrain from responding to every ignorant post made on this thread. I am not going to be babysit it unless I see some thought provoking and constructive posts made.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
Since you're ingoring our wingers, it'd only be fair to ignore the wingers of Barca and Madrid, no?
That means Ronaldo, Rodriguez and Bale all get ignored, as well as Neymar and Messi.
Barca's Strikers consist of Suarez and perhaps Messi but only when Suarez isn't playing.
Madrid's is Benzema and Hernandez.
That is not above ours, Costa is one of the best CF's in the world and Remy is a quality back up.
Our problem is not our strikers.

Re: Improving our Striking Force
Of course, if your only concern is for Chelsea to compete against Southampton, Swansea and West ham, then there is hardly a problem with Chelsea let alone with the strikers and maybe they should only go for one CM as you have been repeatedly suggesting. But if we are to compete at the highest levels against teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, then we have big problems. See the term "problem" is relative. One team's problem is another one's gain. Stats sometimes can be misleading. At the highest levels, every detail counts.
Costa is a good CF, only recently he has not been playing as a CF but more like a winger and Hazard is taking the # 10 role (past few games including the psg at home). But even as a CF, Costa has nothing over Ibra. Costa and Remy play very similar roles. They're good CF / poachers, but they don't bring a tactical advantage to Mourinho if he decides to change the game plan. This is why I had been calling for us to go after technical strikers for several months now, ever since I saw how limited our options are upfront. I didn't call candidate names back then until Ibra's recent fall out with the French Media. Benzema has always not been flashy enough for the Madrid Galacticos Project and he has always been on the chop list for the past few years. That doesn't mean that we will be able to secure the services of either or both. It just means there is an opportunity which we should consider, because we do have problems in our front-line.
I do agree, that Chelsea's cracks extend beyond the striking role and is mainly in the midfield.
It depends on Mourinho's vision, whether he still wants to play with a rock solid defensive formation or he wants to reshape the team to be like water; water which could eat through any type of rock. He already understands that this will be his last chapter at Chelsea unless he tries to bring something new which even if he fails at, it would still be a very good experience and a mutual benefit for him as a manager and the Club.
So If you want Chelsea to compete at the highest levels and play dominant football, the core team needs re-building.
I actually liked the way Chelsea played at home against PSG even when PSG where down to 10 players. Chelsea were trying and they almost succeeded if it weren't for the injury time goals conceded but I also understood that this is the best Chelsea can offer with the current players profiles. If the loss didn't come from PSG it would have came from Dortmund, Juve, Atleti or any other tier 1 or 2 teams. Btw I have literally warned you about the exact scenario happening word for word if you remember except I called it a penalty leveler whereas it came from a corner but you decided I was reading too much into it and that we have already qualified to the quarter finals. Maybe you should try and consider what I am saying this time at least?
