Re: The Movie House - Part 4
Naa 50/50 and all are nothing compared to his earlier films. Believe me. I am not saying that because I am his fan or anything.
And man you got watch Mysterious Skin. Its in my like all time favorite top 10 films..lol And I have seen quite a decent number of films in my life so far.
JGL plays a teenage hustler in the film.
Right now I agree Gyllenhaal is easily the best young actor out there. But still I at least will place JGL alongside these talented new crop of actors.

I think Brick is his best though. Just liked his performance most in that one. Gosling is also up there tbh. Loved his performance in The Believer, have you seen that? He was great.

Re: The Movie House - Part 4
Cool.
Yea Brick was brilliant as well.
Then theres The Lookout (2007). And these 3 are THE films one should watch if he want to know what JGL is really. And not craps like Don Jon and Premium Rush.
And about Gosling. Lol I was scared to say his name actually. I have heard a lot of people saying he is wooden and shit. A lot of people hate Ryan Gosling you know, lol. to my absolute bewilderment.
yea Believer. Lars and the Real Girl, Drive !!!!
Gosling is a real deal as well. He is starring in the Blade runner reboot. to be directed by Enemy director right ?

Yeah that's official I think. Denis Villenueve said Blade Runner is his all time favourite film and what he loved instead of SW etc.
My hype for that film is enormous. Gosling if he is a replicant, is perfect casting, since he has that rep of beeing wooden etc.

Re: The Movie House - Part 4
Lol, if he is cast in that film solely for being wooden.
But what exactly is that. his criticism. Anyone know ? What are they putting up as an evidence. In Drive at least he was acting wooden only because that role demanded nothing but that.
He was emoting just fine in many of his other films if I remember correctly.

People have a habit of commenting with a very small sample size. That's basically it.

I liked Only God forgives tbh. But I kinda understand why people hate it.
Its hardcore metaphorical. Then its sad even critics and intellectuals never gave it a chance and dismissed it as being pretentious.
But watch that film become a cult classic some 10 or 15 years later. Has got that sort of quality. Similar to Jarmusch's Ghost Dog

lol Hesher is average, though I liked his character in it. I didn't like Brick in particular as well, didn't do it for me
JGL best is 50/50 imo, haven't seen Lookout or Mysterious Skin yet so I'll try that.
Oh and Gosling is a beast ffs! The Place Beyond the Pines anyone? Also Blue Valentine has been on my watchlist for some time now.

Re: The Movie House - Part 4
I rank Joseph Gordon Levitt and Casey Affleck similarly to Jake Gyllenhaal. They are gonna gonna be considered in the same A-list category as Leo, Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey etc in terms of popularity at least. Or at least I hope so.
I think they are as good of actors as McConaughey and Pitt etc, they just have to do a career defining role, which I think Gyllenhaal just had with Nightcrawler. But to reach Leo they got some time to go still.

It was alright. Don't like Will Ferrell or Wahlberg that much so maybe I didn't enjoy as much as others but it wasn't that good imo.

Well I think Hardy, Gyllenhaal, Fassbender and JGL are all better than Leo tbh. I think he's really good, but overrated. The whole Leo oscar posts every year is ridiculous. No idea how he was nominated for Blood Diamond.

Blue Valentine is absolutely amazing. My favourite Gosling performance probably. It's such a heartbreaking film. It's a must watch. Derek Cianfrance is one of my favourites.

Re: The Movie House - Part 4
I would categorize Hardy and Fassbender in that same A-list category with Bale, Pitt, McConaughey, Leo, etc (can't think of everyone ff). But I personally think Leo is the cream of the crop of the A-listers. We'll have to agree to disagree.
IMO JGL needs 'that one' role to move him into that zone. Gyllenhaal and Casey Affleck likewise. Gyllenhaal's Nightcrawler was that film I feel, but I still feel skeptical of moving there too soon for whatever reason. Southpaw could do it, who knows.
Honestly a huge fan of all and consider this whole era to be quite fascinating in terms of talented A-list actors.

Gyllenhaal has delivered a career-defining performance in Nightcrawler. It's a crime he didn't win the academy award. No question. I am a big Leo fan, just think the he's overrated/overhyped, being called GOAT etc by the casual. I feel like he needs a few more great performances. His early career had some absolutely amazing roles, This Boy's Life, Gilbert Grape etc. But I feel like he's pretty much the same in the noughties. I have a good feeling about him in The Revenant, where I think he, Hardy and Anderson will be incredible. He looks like he's finally starting to do riskier characters.
He's a weird case though. He's in a lot of my favourite movies, but he never seems to be the best part of them. Hope it changes though, can never be too many great performers.
JGL also needs some career-defining performance soon. Maybe it will happen with Snowden. He is a lot like Leo imo, both child stars with baby-faces that haven't fulfilled the early promisses yet.
