Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
So are any of you following the season 6 set photos I would like to talk about that thing in the North which is a massive spoiler for the season and most probably TWOW as well.
- Spoiler:
- Jon Snow wearing Stark gear leading the battle. So that theory of his "death" removing from his vows look likely to be true. Honestly I can see Stannis actually dying and Jon returning for Snowbowl in TWOW too. I'm not sure about the show, did Robb legitimize Jon off screen? What about Rickon, didn't he go to Last Hearth, home of the Umbers?

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
S6 set spoilers
- Spoiler:
- I was pretty angry when Stannis died on the show but reading about Snowbowl... it makes sense. A Stark should win Winterfell not some southern king. Be it Sansa, Rickon or Jon, I will be happy about any of them.
I think the Pink Letter happens next season, Jon is revived, Ramsay sends letter asking about his Reek and Sansa (remember Ramsay very convienently tells Sansa about Jon being Lord Commander), after receiving letter Jon is pissed and decides to abandon Castle Black and embrace his Starkness. Battle in the Snow and a big win for the Starks except that White Walkers breach the Wall with no protection in the last episode.
Battle is being called as the "Battle of the 6 armies" by extras who are filming which seems a lot of armies involved. Pro-Stark army led by Smalljon Umber in Rickon's name, Wildlings and some NW men led by Jon Snow, Pro-Bolton army led by Roose Bolton, Vale Army led by Yohn Royce in Littlefingers/Sansas name but who are the other two? They are filming for more than a month and they are still filming this battle, it's taking longer than Hardhome and is directed by Miguel Sapochnik which means we can expect an epic Episode 9.

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
I followed the spoilers until people started posting videos and that kind of turned me off the whole things. It's different hearing about a possible path the show may take than seeing it visually as they film it.

- Spoiler:
- Hornwood and Mormont banners were spotted on set so I wager those are the other two.
Wish we had Manderly instead of Hornwood Also I think the Karstarks are in too.

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
- Spoiler:
- I don't think Hornwood and Mormont can be considered as having armies of their own. But even if we consider them that'd make more than 6 armies if we include Karstark aswell.
And yeah agreed with BC about video spoilers, that's taking it too far. I mean the whole Tower of Joy scene is spoiled in one of those videos

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
There is other interesting S6 news coming out. Obviously beware of spoilers if you don't want to know
- Spoiler:
- Riverrun and the Riverlands are back in a big way.
Jaime and Bronn (who is replacing Ser Ilyn) will visit the Riverlands.
Lannister tents have been spotted surrounding Riverrun suggesting a siege.
Along with Walder Frey returning, another Frey has been cast and will appear in 3 episodes.
Arya will return at some point to the Riverlands.
Mace Tyrell calls in the Reach army to release Margaery.
Only it turns out the High Sparrow has persuaded Tommen and Margaery to become devout followers of the Faith. (Margaery is probably faking)
The Mercy chapter from Winds of Winter is getting adapted minus the kill.
Arya is seen being chased around Braavos by the Waif which suggests a fallout with the FM.
Euron Greyjoy and Aeron have been cast and the Kingsmoot is being adapted. The biggest surprise? Theon Greyjoy is present
Meereen will be experiencing famine under Tyrion's reign and former slaves will be thinking of Daenerys as another Master.
Shae was seen filming in Meeren. Yep.
Varys will leave Meereen and Tyrion at one point

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
Seems like they took a detour last season by adding filler in hope GRRM writes the 6th book. Because however good D&D are, they can't really make up their own script for season 6. And GRRM can't spend time at the set helping them either since he has a book to finish by Feb/March

But D&D always wanted to do 7 seasons while HBO keeps pushing for 8

Think it will go for 8 seasons now. I don't think ADOS is going to be the last book imo

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
So if we're hoping for a March 2016 release and they need 3 months to do the propper editing/marketing this means the announcement has to come before year's end, right? Otherwise it's not beating the show. And yet we've been hearing very little news.... not encouraging.

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
Martin said just recently in his Not A Blog, that he is not done writing TWOW.
Such a shame, a pre-S6 release would be not only great for the fans but marketing-wise aswell.

We can start panicing after Martin makes no announcement in December.
Also on the Blackfish returning,
"Are you blind as well as maimed Ser? Can you not see the direwolf banner still hanging in our walls?"

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
Up to AFFC now. Jaime is so GOAT. He's got so many great chapters that don't really get played out in the TV series. The Kingsguard have more character as well. In the TV series, its Jaime, Meryn Trant and then a bunch of jobbers.
Only disappointing storylines I've found so far is Brienne trying to find Sansa and anything involving Bran.

AFFC is the worst book of the series. By far. I almost stopped reading there.

Will always recommend to people they read the combined read as opposed to AFFC and then ADWD. It makes both books way more enjoyable.

Also every time this thread is bumped I get my hopes up. It's going to be like this for the next 6 months. Just release the thing already GRRM.

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
The series gradually got worse after ASOS. AFFC > ADWD for me aswell but only because ADwD is so bad.
Just thinking about all the cliffhangers, main characters having awful arcs (apart from the Northern arc which was awesome). Tyrion being a depressing shithead conversating with scrub characters. Daenerys sitting on her ass dealing with Ahssjxncnak zo Ahahdbana, Quentyn travellig somewhere, Victarion travelling somewhere, Jon Con travelling somewhere. Pfff.

The North remembers, Lord Davos. The North remembers, and the mummer’s farce is almost done.

Re: [BOOKS] Game of Thrones for the Literate
Lord too fat to sit a horse
Brandon Stark, Brynden 'Bloodraven' Rivers (Max von Sydow!), Rickon Stark, Smalljon Umber, Wyman Manderly, Howland Reed, Walder Frey, Brynden 'Blackfish' Tully, Edmure Tully, Septon Meribald (Ian McShane!) Sandor Clegane (GET HYPE!), Euron/Balon Greyjoy, Randyll Tarly, Archmaester Marwyn, Khal Jhaqo.
So many awesome characters being introduced/returning in S6
The only major storyline confirmed missing from the books are the Griffs and their allies/friends. Can't even say Lady Stoeheart is confirmed missing with some filming news hints.

Ian McShane provides intriguing hint about his Game of Thrones role
“I’ll give you one hint,” McShane told Pop Goes The News. “I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that.”
He also says of his role, “[It’s] a one-off episode.”
