No Art that's not what I'm saying. formation=/=tactics. I don't mean the formation. The formation is alright. I agree with with. WE were doing well with it so he's right to continue. However, we had like 90% possession with this formation against Arsenal ffs.
But Rodgers is playing a counter attacking tactics today. We are letting Burnley have the possession for the most part and pressing loosely individually and without any idea like headless chickens.

We're not letting them have the possession, they're having it because they have the tactics to counter our 3-4-3 formation. Press our poor-in-possession midfield and thus isolate our forward trio. Arsenal were happy to drop back, that's why we had the possession against them. Arsenal were asking "what can you do with your forward line?", Burnley are asking "What can you do with your midfield?" and our answer for the first 45 minutes was "nothing, lol".

That's not what I saw. What I saw was a team yellow content with having the other team possession and then trying to counter quickly. Which absolutely didn't work because the work-rate of Burnely was too high and our forward line was left feeding on scraps.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
Well, that was far from convincing, but it's a win.
Coutinho's assist was indeed sick, even Ifty can be happy with him there. I'd still nominate Sakho as Man of the Match.
This game poses questions on the 3-4-3, it was way too easy to press our midfield and isolate the front three. Next two games at Anfield, though, where it should be easier. However, I don't like it when we play both Gerrard and Lucas.
Not pretty, but I'll take the three points.
Btw, what's with the substitutions? Jones, injured, okay, but changing a CB at half-time? I guess that sticks with the tradition of changing a full-back at HT when needing a goal. Also, Coutinho would not have been the player I would have taken off and Lambert would not have been the one I would have brought on.

cant tell you how happy I am to get three points on a Boxing Day. Coutinho Can made the difference which no one realised, it was like a midfielder playing in the backline who could play good passes from the back.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
How anyone is optimistic after today is beyond me, Yes we got 3 points, but it was against a relegation side and we barley won, and sterling looked offside for his goal, we would of got put away against if we played a mid table club or above.
This 3 at the back bullshit is so crap, it really gives Rodgers limited options if we had to the change formation during the game.
Henderson continues to be wasted at RWB
Gerrard and Lucas stilll played in the middle TOGETHER
Marcovic at LWB
Were still not playing with a striker
We still have no attacking power
FFS, not even looking like Rodgers is learning.

I sort of agree with you that there's not much to cheer about, beating Burnley in this manner when they probably were the better team overall. I'm just hopeful that this was a one-off, that Burnley got their preparation done better than we did over Christmas. They certainly looked much more like they knew what they were doing.
However, at the end of the day it's a badly needed win and I don't see the point lamenting our shortcomings in the game. All teams need a few lucky breaks during the season, this was one for us, now it's up to Rodgers and the squad that we play better against Swansea and don't rely on luck when that game kicks off.

I don't think I've celebrated a Liverpool goal less than this one
just numb feeling watching us. it's as we have no idea where this team is going...picking up random wins here and there in sea of mediocrity

Was watching the highlights on MOTD, what was up with Mignolet, it was like he was trying to sabotage the team. he's awful.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
Not sure why people keep calling Markovic and Henderson wingbacks. They're not. They're wide midfielders and they spend more time centrally and forward than at the back.
We played a fine away game IMO. They really didn't get many quality chances aside from Skrtel's mistake. Luckily he only hit the post. As soon as we got our goal (Coutinho has really been great lately) the team livened up. The most important thing is that we got a win where a few other teams have failed to do so.
Just gotta follow up with another win on Monday.

Unless we use Henderson and Markovic to provide more width, we will start struggling with this formation without Sturridge in the team !!!

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
A fit and in-form Sturridge should help a lot, though. I'd say we'd have about five points more had we had Sturridge playing all season and possibly qualified from our CL group. No much point in iffing, though, we'll see what his impact is when he comes back.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
"The fix for all of this."
As though we've been playing poorly of late. The truth is we were still adapting to life after Suarez and having Sturridge injured didn't help, but we're moving on now and that's without Sturridge in the side.
Tell me again how we were poor against Burnley after they just came back to draw City AWAY from home. I think people need to drop the cynicism and look at how we've improved from after the City game until now. Yes, there was a poor run in there, but we're still in the hunt and looking better than most clubs in the PL at this point.

Re: Burnley v Liverpool
Four decent games out of 26-27 can't be much encouraging. As though we've been playing poorly of late.
The truth is we are merely adapting to the inexperience and limitations of Rodgers. The Suarez excused has been over used. The truth is we were still adapting to life after Suarez
That's was really low. We all know where City & us stands ATM.Tell me again how we were poor against Burnley after they just came back to draw City AWAY from home.
no comments really.we're still in the hunt and looking better than most clubs in the PL at this point.
I know it's totally meaningless to argue/reason with you but my frustration got better of me.
